About The Position

At Community First! Village (CFV), t h e Neig h bor Care Team h as t h e privilege of walking alongside our "neig h bors," providing opportunities for t h em to settle, cultivate, and care for t h emselves and ot h ers in t h is unique community, w h ic h is h ome to individuals w h o h ave experienced c h ronic h omelessness. As a leader wit h in t h e Neig h bor Care Team, t h e Assistant Director will collaborate wit h ot h er department leaders to oversee daily operations and to ensure t h e effective implementation of programs and services t h at foster community, en h ance neig h bor well-being, and maintain t h e operational excellence of t h e Village. A crucial aspect of t h is role includes ensuring t h at our neig h bor's h omes and surrounding properties are efficiently and proactively managed, t h e move in process is seamless, and mont h ly/annual move in goals are met. T h is role requires a compassionate leader wit h a strong background in people management and strategic planning, wit h experience in h ous ing and property management, as well as a passion for serving low-income communities. T h is is a full-time, exempt position reporting to t h e Senior Director of Neig h bor Care. Due to t h e nature and requirements of t h e position, t h e h ours are generally Monday t h roug h Friday, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm. Some nig h ts and weekends will be required. T h e Assistant Director of Neig h bor Care will office at Community First! Village located at 9301 H og Eye Road, Austin, TX 78724.

Requirements

  • Commitment to serving t h ose w h o h ave experienced h omelessness and personal alignment wit h MLF's vision, mission, core values, and goals.
  • Bac h elor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related discipline).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, wit h demonstrated success in managing budgets, financial reporting, and complex programs.
  • Experience in t h e h ous ing -first, low income, or supportive h ous ing environment sector and property management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in people management, preferably in h ous ing , nonprofit, or social services setting s .
  • Demonstrated experience working wit h individuals experiencing c h ronic h omelessness, mental h ealt h c h allenges, addictions, or ot h er vulnerabilities.
  • Strong background in strategic planning and organizational growt h , wit h t h e ability to implement sustainable systems.
  • Proven ability to t h ink critically, multitask, manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, and adapt to c h allenges creatively.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, wit h a h ig h level of emotional intelligence and cultural competence.
  • Knowledge of h ous ing systems, particularly for low-income populations, and/or property management experience.
  • Knowledge of and practical experience in trauma-informed care principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and property management software.
  • H ig h ly organized and detail-oriented, wit h strong time management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • A collaborative spirit wit h t h e ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and fostering positive relations h ips.
  • Demonstrates integrity, excellence, and a passion for process improvement.
  • Must h ave a valid driver's license.

  • Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) and Accredited Residential Manager (ARM) certifications are a plus!

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and support t h e Neig h bor Care team, by promoting strong leaders h ip, professional development, and staff retention.
  • Provide direct supervision to members of t h e Property Management and Move In Teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
  • Oversee team performance of direct reports, conduct evaluations, and ensure ad h erence to best practices.
  • Work closely wit h Senior Director of Neig h bor Care and ot h er Neig h bor Care leaders h ip to develop leaders h ip capacity wit h in t h e team.
  • Promote an environment t h at prioritizes t h e well-being of bot h t h e team and t h e neig h bors, recognizing t h e unique c h allenges and opportunities of serving neig h bors w h o h ave experienced c h ronic h omelessness.
  • Coordinate multiple projects and priorities, ensuring timely and efficient completion.
  • Ensure staff h ave t h e resources and training needed to perform t h eir roles effectively.
  • Assist in t h e development and execution of strategic initiatives to en h ance Neig h bor Care services, ensuring alignment wit h MLF culture, vision, mission and long-term goals.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to meet t h e evolving needs of t h e community.
  • Develop and oversee data-driven strategies for assessing program effectiveness and making informed decisions.
  • Collaborate wit h leaders h ip to create sustainable models of growt h in response to organizational expansion.
  • Oversee t h e Property Management Team to ensure a stable, well-maintained living environment and t h e delivery of h ig h -quality services, w h ere neig h bor needs are met, and issues are resolved promptly.
  • Oversee t h e Move In Team as t h ey prepare h omes and provide support to neig h bors navigating h ous ing -related c h allenges w h ile promoting long-term stability.
  • Develop and implement strategies to en h ance t h e steady inflow of h ous ing applicants, h ous ing sustainability, and community dynamics.
  • Ensure ac h ievement of mont h ly and annual move in goals t h roug h collaboration wit h internal and external partners.
  • Oversee emergency and crisis intervention strategies, ensuring staff are equipped to manage complex situations involving vulnerable individuals.
  • Ensure compliance wit h local, state, and federal h ous ing regulations.
  • Manage relations h ips wit h contractors, vendors, and ot h er MLF departments.
  • Identify opportunities for program improvement and growt h , using data and feedback to inform decision-making.
  • Collaborate wit h Senior Director of Neig h bor Care to prepare and monitor t h e annual budgets.
  • Review and ensure appropriate recordkeeping systems are in place and utilized .
  • Development and implementation of department and team goals.
