About The Position

The Salmon P. Chase Center for Civics, Culture, and Society is conducting a nationwide search for an Assistant Director of K-12 Partnerships and Curriculum, a person who will work closely with the Center’s administrative team to build the Center into the flourishing academic community envisioned in ORC § 3335.39. The Assistant Director, as with all members of the Center, should embrace the Center’s mission. The successful candidate will be the primary person responsible for overseeing and effectively conducting the Center’s outreach and recruitment efforts to K-12 schools (especially classical schools), their students, and their families. The Assistant Director will also help develop K-12 curricula for the Center’s classical education teaching and leadership degree programs, and its professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers. The Assistant Director will be responsible for strategically establishing and executing complex projects of a large scope. The Assistant Director will oversee a range of strategic and administrative initiatives that ensure effective recruitment of students to the Chase Center. As the leader of K-12 programming within the Chase Center, the Assistant Director will work independently to develop, deliver, measure, evaluate, and continuously improve these initiatives to optimize effectiveness with relevant audiences. First, the Assistant Director will be responsible for developing and implementing procedures for strategic engagement, collaborative relationships, and meaningful partnerships with Ohio (and other) K-12 schools, and overseeing engagements to completion, especially in the K-12 classical context. As a part of this, the Assistant Director will plan and administer student recruiting programs. This will include establishing and implementing a student recruitment plan, visiting schools, their families and students, supervising annual recruitment events for both prospective and admitted students, and managing pre-application and pre-admission processes at the Center. Relationship-building is core to the Assistant Director position. The Assistant Director will serve as liaison to the Center’s Leadership team, fostering relationships with partners across the University and the wider community at special events and on committees in areas aligning with the Center’s mission. This will include hosting students, families, and leaders at the Center; consulting and coordinating with faculty, staff, and senior leadership to create new partnerships; collaborating with central admissions and other offices to develop and administer plans, programs, and events for general and targeted student recruitment in support of organizational goals; and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and policies. The Assistant Director will also work with communications staff to develop and market opportunities for engagement, create recruitment literature, publicize events, and ensure all prospective students and their families receive appropriate information. Second, the Assistant Director will be responsible for strategic planning and execution related to the Center’s K-12 initiatives, including the development of the Center’s classical education curricula, and its K-12 teacher professional development initiatives. This will include working with Chase Center faculty to develop K-12 curricula. The Assistant Director will not only research K-12 curricula, pedagogical best practices, and educational policy requirements but also manage the promotion of the K-12 curricula and transmit information to relevant personnel. The Assistant Director will be expected to handle all interactions with enthusiasm, civility, respect, and professionalism to promote and create a welcoming atmosphere for faculty, students, and families. He or she will also maintain confidentiality in all matters of business responsibility and student involvement. Salary and benefits are competitive.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the Chase Center’s statutory mission.
  • Bachelor of Arts in a field related to the Center’s mission, including (but not limited to) economics, English, history, law, philosophy, political theory/political science, theology/religious studies, or sociology.
  • Record or demonstrated promise of knowledge and experience in community and partnership development, especially in the K-12 classical context.
  • Record or demonstrated promise of crafting, teaching, or implementing K-12 curricula, especially classical curricula.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate poise, professionalism, good judgment, and the ability to take the extra step to meet customer needs.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Regular in-person attendance is expected.
  • This position will require in-state travel, evenings, and weekends, and occasional out-of-state travel.
  • 6 years of relevant experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in community and partnership development, especially in the K-12 classical context.
  • Significant experience crafting, teaching, and/or implementing K-12 curricula, especially classical curricula.
  • Strategic or long-range planning experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with the wider University, community leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in a progressively responsible management capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and effectively conduct the Center’s outreach and recruitment efforts to K-12 schools, their students, and their families.
  • Serve as an effective interface between the Center and K-12 schools, their families, students, and other partners.
  • Develop a student recruitment plan and implement it, visiting schools, their families, and students.
  • Lead enrollment data analysis efforts and work to identify solutions to address enrollment trends; measure and evaluate the success of recruitment programs, communications, and special projects; and provide the Center’s leadership with statistical, technical, and other data for admissions policy and procedure decisions.
  • Foster relationships via events.
  • Establish partnerships with educators, administrators, and families, and serve as liaison to the Center’s leadership team.
  • Collaborate with partners across the University.
  • Assist in the development of K-12 curricula for the Center’s classical education teaching and leadership degree programs, and its professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers.
  • Research K-12 curricula, pedagogical best practices, and educational policy requirements, and transmit this information to relevant personnel.
  • Work directly with Chase Center faculty to help develop K-12 curricula, and provide advice and editing assistance.
  • Manage the promotion of the Center’s K-12 curricula, and provide relevant technical information to the Center’s leadership.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as needed to support Chase Center operations and leadership initiatives.
