About The Position

To develop, in each student, an application of the art of music as a part of general culture; to teach techniques of instrumental music expression; to discover talents of students in the field of music; to teach appropriate practice and playing habits; to teach music theory, history, and pedagogy as it relates to performing in the traditional/modern marching and wind band setting.

Requirements

  • Valid Oklahoma Teacher's Certification
  • Endorsement to teach Instrumental Music with Percussion emphasis or specialty

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the District Coordinator of Instrumental Music on matters of curriculum, scheduling, budgeting, instrument distribution, etc.
  • Obtain suitable playing level for the second phase of the Durant Band Program.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter as it relates to instrumental music.
  • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature that are proper for the ages and skill levels of students.
  • Establishes standards of student behavior to offer a productive environment during rehearsals, performances, contests, etc.
  • Indentifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Assist with Intermediate School Band.
  • Assist with Middle School Band.
  • Assist with Durant High Band.
