About The Position

The Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life is a full-time, live-on, central staff member under the supervision of the Director of Housing and Residence Life. The Assistant Director must be a detail-oriented, and highly collaborative leader and must demonstrate knowledge of a broad range of Housing and Residence Life functions including but not limited to: programming, policy development, crisis management, supervision, housing assignment process, student conduct and staff development; oversight and assessment of a comprehensive housing and residence life program for approximately 2100 students there is a 3 year residential requirement for undergraduate students and we house roughly 300 seniors and over 100 graduate students) with a live-on director, associate director, assistant director, live-on Community Directors, Graduate Community Directors, and Resident Assistant student staff. The residential system currently includes 7 traditional halls, 3 suite-style apartment areas, 27 houses and 13 apartments. This position is a live on required position and is provided with a single-family college owned house near campus.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required with a minimum of 2-4 years of experience in student affairs, counseling, higher education.
  • Some graduate experience may be considered
  • Strong supervision and programming experience as well as communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment while handling a variety of administrative tasks are essential.
  • Excellent organizational, problem resolution and customer service skills are a must.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and software such as housing management software, student management software, etc. and MS Office Suite software. Ability to pass background check.
  • Regular evening, holiday, or weekend work required to attend evening programs/events.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the comprehensive Undergraduate Housing Selection process for new and returning students.
  • Manage housing occupancy data, process room changes/cancellation requests, update withdrawal/leave of absence paperwork, student billing adjustments, and other administrative work associated with undergraduate housing.
  • Recruit, select, train and provide ongoing direct supervision and development of the Graduate Community Directors (Graduate Associates) and approximately 45 student Resident Assistants. Supervise and participate in selection of graduate community directors.
  • Assemble data from various sources; survey, research and analyze trends in processes for student housing and make recommendations for policies, processes and occupancy. Collect, maintain, update and track student housing data and create reports for student staff programming data, housing occupancy, room changes, etc.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of the Resident Assistant program including student staff recruitment, selection, training, retention, and in-service processes
  • Work with the full complement of housing and residence life staff to create, implement and assess a residential engagement model with appropriate developmental outcomes for each residential area. Develop systems to track programmatic outcomes and centralize program resources for all members of the department.
  • Participate in the centralized on-call administrative duty rotation, serving in an on-call capacity for one week at a time (24 hours a day/7 days a week during the on-duty week) for approximately 12 weeks a calendar year and serve as first responder when emergencies occur. Adhere to protocols, effectively use campus and external resources to address issues and appropriately seek consultation from and/or escalate issues to the Dean of Students or Vice President for Student Affairs as needed.
