About The Position

The Assistant Director of Food Services supports the Director in planning, coordinating, and overseeing all aspects of the district’s child nutrition program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role helps maintain high standards of food quality, nutrition, safety, and customer service across all K–12 school sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Service Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in school food service, institutional food management, or culinary operations.
  • Culinary knowledge or experience in food preparation, menu planning, and kitchen operations.
  • Knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Programs, including NSLP, SBP, and CACFP.
  • ServSafe Certification or equivalent food safety certification.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Fundamental Fondness for children and a desire to work in a public school setting.
  • Must possess a sense of humor.

Nice To Haves

  • School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) certification or Registered Dietitian (RD) credential.
  • Experience public sector settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing daily operations of food service programs across all schools in the district.
  • Monitor compliance with USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), and other federal/state meal programs.
  • Support menu planning and development to meet USDA guidelines and accommodate student preferences, allergies, and special diets.
  • Supervise and provide training for kitchen staff, cafeteria managers, and food service workers.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, procurement, and inventory control.
  • Monitor kitchen operations for food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety compliance.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manage food supply logistics.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor meal quality, service efficiency, and compliance.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of nutrition education, wellness initiatives, and promotional activities.
  • Support audits, prepare reports, and maintain required documentation for state and federal reviews.
  • Act as liaison between food service, school administration, parents, and the community.
  • Serve as acting director in the absence of the Director of Food Services.
  • Possess the necessary computer skills including but not limited to, MS Word, Excel, Food Service Software
