About The Position

Weill Cornell Medicine’s Meyer Cancer Center is a collaborative, multidisciplinary research enterprise engaged with more than 250 basic scientists, pathologists, bioinformaticians, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists and other clinicians, who collaborate with partners across the region to take fundamental discoveries from bench to bedside. The Center has a 15-million-dollar annual operating budget supported by institutional funds and a variety of complicated gifts and funding agreements. The Assistant Director for Finance is responsible for the stewardship of all Center finances, supporting our academic and administrative leaders in strategic planning and program development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • Approximately 10+ years of related financial administrative experience in a research environment, preferably in an academic medical school setting.
  • Advanced financial analysis skills that include the ability to synthesize complex financial data into palatable action items.
  • Advance proficiency in Excel, data manipulation and computer systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as exceptional organizational skills to handle multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the annual Meyer Cancer Center (MCC)budget in collaboration with MCC leadership; monitor revenues, expenditures, and variances monthly to ensure that performance and financial benchmarks are met.
  • Oversee preparation of financial reporting on all active accounts; review reports with MCC leadership on a quarterly basis.
  • Oversee approval of financial transactions; ensure that proper internal controls are in place, resolve any financial issues.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of a finance dashboard to visualize, track and report on financial performance and status.
  • Lead and facilitate regular budget negotiations with New York Presbyterian Hospital.
  • Manage and oversee financial reporting obligations under MCC gifts and collaborations, including relationships with the Ludwig Foundation, the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy, the Weill Family Foundation and other donors.
  • Manages vendor contracts and offers cost effective recommendations.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of departmental and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with Cancer Clinical Trials revenue cycle team to develop financial reporting and annual budget.
  • Support and monitor MCC pilot award programs.
