About The Position

Guided by our vision to create financial solutions that make lives better, we are seeking an Assistant Director of Commercial Loan Production to help lead our growing Business Services team and strengthen the long‑term growth, quality, and performance of our commercial lending portfolio. The Assistant Director of Commercial Loan Production plays a pivotal role in originating, managing, and expanding a high‑quality commercial loan portfolio while providing leadership and performance oversight to a team of commercial loan officers and support staff. This role drives business development activities, manages production pipelines, ensures credit quality, enhances administrative processes, and fosters a culture of coaching, accountability, and exceptional service. Successful candidates will bring strong financial analysis capability, market insight, credit acumen, and leadership experience in commercial lending.

Requirements

  • Commercial Lending Expertise & Credit Acumen: Minimum 7+ years of commercial lending experience with a proven record of portfolio growth and credit management. Strong underwriting skills and extensive knowledge of laws and regulations related to business lending. Ability to conduct in‑depth financial analysis, assess creditworthiness, structure loan terms, and prepare high‑quality credit recommendations. Experience with government‑guaranteed loan programs and construction/development lending preferred.
  • Leadership, Talent Development & Team Performance: Prior supervisory or team‑lead experience required, ideally within commercial or business banking. Ability to coach, mentor, and develop high‑performing loan officers and origination staff. Skilled in setting expectations, reviewing performance, managing employment issues, and fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and morale. Strong ability to utilize goal‑tracking metrics, dashboards, and reports to monitor and drive team performance.
  • Market Awareness, Strategic Thinking & Business Development: Deep knowledge of local and regional market trends, competitive dynamics, and economic drivers influencing commercial lending. Strong business development capability, including sourcing new opportunities, expanding client relationships, and deepening referral networks. Ability to collaborate with leadership to develop and execute commercial loan and deposit strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Operational Excellence & Collaboration: Highly organized with strong time‑management, problem‑solving, and independent‑judgment skills. Ability to oversee administrative processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in loan sourcing, pipeline management, and production workflows. Skilled in collaborating with credit, operations, servicing, compliance, and other internal partners to streamline processes and resolve escalated issues.
  • Communication & Relationship Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret complex credit information and present recommendations clearly. Ability to represent the credit union with professionalism in community settings, partner events, and member interactions. Commitment to providing unsurpassed service to members and internal teams.
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 7+ years of commercial lending experience with demonstrated success in portfolio growth, credit management, and relationship development. Prior supervisory or team‑lead experience required, preferably within commercial banking, credit administration, or financial services. Extensive experience in commercial lending, credit analysis, and underwriting, with a strong understanding of regulatory and policy requirements. Preferred experience with government‑guaranteed lending programs (e.g., SBA) and construction/development financing. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with CRM, loan origination systems, and production‑tracking software is a plus.
