About The Position

The Student Success division at the University of South Florida, is comprised of 60 departments, providing students with academic support, engagement opportunities, health & wellness services and enhancement of the educational experience. The Counseling Center is a critical component of Student Success at the University of South Florida, located in beautiful Tampa Bay on Florida's spectacular west coast. The Counseling Center strives to support the mental health and well-being of the 44,000 enrolled graduate and undergraduate students at the USF Tampa campus. Through the provision of high quality clinical services and evidenced-based practice, innovative outreach, consultation, and education, the Counseling Center is recognized and valued for its contribution to the success of an exceptionally diverse student body. The Counseling Center, with a dedicated, energetic, and motivated team of 30 multidisciplinary professionals including licensed psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, licensed clinical social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, and administrative support personnel is accredited by IACS and has an APA-accredited doctoral internship and APPIC affiliated post-doctoral fellowships. The Counseling Center is committed to a team approach to client care across all staff. With a thriving and growing group therapy program, interdisciplinary training programs, and ongoing consultation opportunities, the Counseling Center is seeking psychologists with a commitment to excellence, a strong multicultural orientation, and who would enhance the diversity and resources of our staff. This position assists with the development, oversight, and management of clinical services of the Counseling Center in association with the Associate Director for Clinical Services and other administrative team members. Considered essential staff, this position is expected to assist with the development of Center policy and programs, supervise clinical staff and graduate trainees, and represents the Center to the USF community and at local, state and national professional forums. Special Skills or Training: Exceptional clinical skills. Supervising clinical staff and graduate trainees. Knowledge of collegiate mental health program operations.

Requirements

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of four years related exempt experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
  • Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S.
  • SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
  • A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:
  • (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
  • (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
  • (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
  • (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
  • Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
  • Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree in social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy or closely related field appropriate to program content is required.
  • Candidate must be licensed in Florida (as a psychologist, social worker, mental health counselor, or marriage and family therapist) within six months of employment.
  • Candidates must have at least two years of experience providing outpatient mental health services to an adult population.
  • Case management experience will not satisfy this requirement.
  • Two years post-degree experience in a university/college counseling center setting
  • Experience supervising graduate level trainees or early career mental health professionals
  • Experience in collegiate mental health with working knowledge of college and university systems, and college students' unique challenges and trends
  • Prior administrative experience, such as coordination of clinical or training programs in psychology, mental health counseling, and/or social work

Responsibilities

  • Provides counseling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups presenting with a range of psychological concerns.
  • Assesses presenting concerns through the center's triage process.
  • Provides crisis intervention at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, including involuntary hospitalization, USF community consultation, and post-traumatic debriefing.
  • Utilizes assessment data as needed for clinical or educational purposes.
  • Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Clinical Services Administration: assists with the development and maintenance of clinical procedures to ensure adherence to best practices, applicable state and federal statutes, local health and safety laws and regulations, Student Success risk management policies, and professional codes of ethics.
  • Coordinates the Center's group counseling program, including the promotion of a group counseling culture, maintaining the group counseling schedule, and coordinating group counseling training for clinicians and trainees.
  • Clinical Services Operations: assists in managing clinical services to ensure that clinicians' scheduling and productivity expectations are met, clinical wait times are minimized, clinical services are appropriately provided, and clinical documentation is completed in accordance with established procedures.
  • Responds to clinical services issues as they arise.
  • Responsible for supervision of clinical staff, including individual administrative supervision, overseeing clinical team meetings, and completing annual evaluations.
  • Provides training in Counseling Center training programs consistent with credentials and experience.
  • In coordination with other leadership team members, provides supervision to counselors-in-training, including individual supervision and completing annual evaluations.
  • Works in coordination with other leadership team members to ensure all staff are properly trained.
  • Serves on the Counseling Center leadership team along with the Director, Associate Directors, Assistant Directors, and Office Manager.
  • Participates in Student Success leadership activities.
  • Actively participates in professional associations and organizations according to degree, license, and role to remain current with innovations in provision of clinical services to university students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
