About The Position

The Assistant Director of Campus Recreation is responsible for organizing, administering, supervising and evaluating the Intramural and Sport Club components of Campus Recreation, including the hiring, training, scheduling, supervision and payroll preparation for all intramural student employees. The position is responsible for supporting Sport Club Travel and risk management policies within Campus Recreation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and three years' professional experience in a supervisory programmatic position in recreation or sports, including at least one year of staff supervision.
  • Thorough knowledge of sports and their organization and administration.
  • Knowledge of the area of facility management and maintenance.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff members, students and/or faculty on a daily basis.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • CPR/First Aid Instructor as required or willingness to acquire within 3 months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in related field.
  • Certified to teach AED.
  • Certified Recreational Sports Specialist through the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA).
  • Knowledge of training officials and supervisory staff.
  • Prior experience in working with a college-aged population in a university setting.
  • Experience in proper selection, use and maintenance of fitness equipment and in managing fitness facilities
  • Advanced organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills and thorough familiarity with social media technology (FB, Twitter, blogging, etc).
  • General enthusiasm, positive attitude, a self-starter and team player with the ability to instill the same in others.
  • Experience within NIRSA

Responsibilities

  • Plan for each IM sport within assigned program, develop league schedules, design registration procedures, and provide equipment, supplies, medical needs, and personnel schedules to operate program.
  • Coordinate the Panther Championship -program for participating teams.
  • Serve as primary advisor to all sport clubs, direct established recognition process for proposed sport clubs, and direct allocation process for recognized clubs.
  • Oversee every sport club's budget, financial audit, travel, risk management, insurance and university policy compliance.
  • Manage clubs' agreements with coaches, medical staff, and practice facilities.
  • Develop on-campus practice schedules.
  • Organize, advertise and speak at all SC Organizational Meetings reviewing policies with new participants
  • Management of 4-5 intramural supervisors,15+ officials, and 1 Sport Club Office Assistant.
  • Complete payroll for IM and SC student employees.
  • Create and facilitate workshops, clinics, and in- service training sessions pertaining to sports/recreational activities for student staff. These workshops should include: CPR/First Aid certification, sports rules, playing techniques, officiating procedures, etc.
  • Create and facilitate - training for Sport Club Officers pertaining to leadership development, University and insurance policy, risk management, transitioning, budgeting, and CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Maintain accurate participation records as well as financial records for all intramural sports and sport clubs.
  • Develop marketing plan and publicity for each IM sport and season utilizing various university media.
  • Oversee all aspects of safety and welfare of IM and SC participants, including sportsmanship and discipline issues.
  • Update and produce recreation publications, i.e. sport club manual, student employee manual, IM participant manual etc.
  • Design and administer comprehensive program assessments to analyze campus constituents' needs, interests, satisfaction and progress toward departmental learning outcomes and insure that these elements are being addressed.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of state and university system policies and regulations as they relate to campus recreation, purchasing, and insurance requirements and safety, and educate students on such areas as needed.
  • Serve on departmental and university committees as deemed appropriate and in the best interests of PSU.
  • Assume other responsibilities and perform related duties as assigned.
