About The Position

This position serves as the Assistant Director of the Technology Infrastructure & Research Computing (TIRC) department. The primary duty of the position is the management of the network, wireless, and data communications unit. This includes hiring staff, managing the workload, delegating work to staff, scheduling, monitoring progress on projects, evaluating staff performance, discipline, and termination. Additional responsibilities include planning and controlling the unit's budget for maintenance, training, and projects; monitoring customer service requests/fulfillment; and process improvement.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Technology
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience which included working in/with all of the following: a. in technical and managerial roles relating to network infrastructure/architecture, internet connectivity, and wireless infrastructure b. with TCP/IP, OSI model, shared and switched media architectures and technologies, and routing protocols c. in a supervisory capacity managing schedules, hiring, professional development, and evaluating job performance d. utilizing a comprehensive understanding of cabling systems (STP, UTP, and fiber, COAX, wireless, digital circuits, etc.), network topologies , protocol models (TCP/IP) and architectures, and the corresponding hardware and software components (routers, switches, UPS, fiber switches, etc.) e. with network hardware (switches, routers, VSS, wireless controllers, gateways, ASA, etc.) and software components (Cisco and Arista CLI) f. in an enterprise and/or education environment
  • Experience working on NSF CC grants including experience designing and building research networks.
  • Experience planning and leading the implementation of a Private 5G network.

Nice To Haves

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of: a. public (Internet) and private network architectures, integration technologies, and design strategies within the LAN and WAN including VOIP. b. cabling systems (UTP, fiber, COAX, wireless, digital circuits, etc.), network topologies, protocol models (TCP/IP) and architectures, and the corresponding hardware and software components (routers, switches, UPS, fiber switches, etc.).
  • Five or more years of experience in an IT-related field.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented collaborative environment.
  • Ability to: a. rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities. b. understand basic electronic schematics, cable plant drawings, engineering and architectural prints, as well as technical manuals and materials. c. respond flexibly and positively in all circumstances and to work calmly under pressure. d. exercise good judgment and discretion, especially with regards to sensitive or confidential personnel or organizational matters. e. communicate effectively, in writing and verbally with co-workers and customers in both technical and non-technical terms. f. write sufficiently to draft professional reports and correspondence that is clear and concise g. work independently and to prioritize a heavy workload under the pressure of competing assignments h. work cooperatively with persons at all levels in the organization and the campus
  • Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
