About The Position

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Provides immigration advising and support services to assist F-1 and M-1 international students in their academic and cultural transition to enrollment at College of DuPage and life in the United States, as well as maintains primary responsibility for institutional compliance with federal immigration regulations pertaining to the enrollment of F-1 and M-1 international students and their dependents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field of study required.
  • Federal immigration regulations require this person be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States required.
  • Must have knowledge of federal immigration regulations pertaining to the admission, enrollment and employment of F-1 and M-1 international students and their dependents required; experience working with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's SEVIS database system required; two years recent experience working with F-1 international students in a post-secondary institution required; and an awareness and cultural sensitivity to the concerns of international students required.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in related field of study preferred.
  • General knowledge of federal immigration regulations pertaining to the admission, enrollment and employment of students in other non-immigrant classifications including but not limited to B-1/B-2 Visitors, J-1 Exchange Visitors, H-1B Temporary Workers, F-2, M-2, H-4 Dependents, etc preferred.
  • Experience studying, working or living in a cultural environment other than applicant's own is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Advises F-1 and M-1 international students on matters regarding maintaining their legal immigration status while enrolled at College of DuPage.
  • Serves as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to ensure regulatory compliance by the institution in tracking the enrollment of F-1 and M-1 international students at College of DuPage.
  • Responds to all official inquiries from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and its affiliates (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol) regarding currently and previously enrolled F-1 and M-1 international students at College of DuPage.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates an orientation program for new F-1 and M-1 international students at the beginning of each academic term.
  • Maintains confidential student records related to the immigration status of F-1 and M-1 international students subject to inspection by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for SEVIS recertification.
  • Provides information to other college departments including but not limited to Admissions, Registration and Records, Counseling and Advising, Human Resources, Career Services, and ESL Advising regarding federal immigration regulations affecting the admission, enrollment and employment of F-1 and M-1 international students at College of DuPage.
  • Provides ongoing immigration advising, basic academic advising, personal and cultural advising, and logistical assistance to F-1 and M-1 international students after they have received an I-20 document for international admission to College of DuPage through completion of studies and any related Optional Practical Training.
  • Plans and implements at least one social or cultural activity each academic term for F-1 and M-1 international students (in conjunction with the International Student Organization when feasible).
  • Represents College of DuPage in NAFSA: Association of International Educators as well as other relevant professional organizations.
  • Works with ESL Advising staff to establish and implement English proficiency requirements for F-1 and M-1 international students applying for international admission to College of DuPage, as well as non-immigrant classifications in ESL programs at the College.
  • Works with other Student Affairs and Services staff to develop strategies to provide support to international students.
  • Provides backup and support services to the International Admission Representative.
  • Other duties as assigned.
