About The Position

The Vermont Department of Health is hiring an Assistant Director for WIC Nutrition Services. This is a full-time leadership position within the Division of Family and Child Health's WIC Program. The incumbent provides planning, consultation, policy, managerial, and supervisory work at a professional level for the WIC Program. Leads advanced-level planning, implementation and evaluation of nutrition service activities and ensures adherence to Federal Regulatory standards. This position plans and implements WIC nutrition services initiatives; develops and implements nutrition policy; and works with a team to influence and improve nutrition and health behaviors for pregnant individuals and young children during critical periods of growth and development to achieve WIC strategic goals. The Assistant Director for WIC Nutrition Services manages and provides oversight of nutrition policies and procedures, WIC clinic standards, and staff training, including nutrition assessment counseling and breastfeeding education. Provides technical support for nutrition services aimed at improving health outcomes. Provides expert guidance and content support to the WIC Program Management Information System (MIS) vendor, and technical support on the MIS to local WIC staff. This position serves on the program leadership team, providing program direction and vision, and participates in policy and management decisions.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in nutrition, nutritional sciences, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition AND two (2) years or more of experience in a field of nutrition that includes one (1) year in a supervisory or administration role.
  • OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, nutritional sciences, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition AND four (4) years or more of experience in a field of nutrition that includes one (1) year in a supervisory or administration role.
  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) credential and must maintain credential while employed in this position.
  • Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
