About The Position

The Senior WIC Nutrition Assistant Lead is responsible for WIC participants’ certification including health and nutrition assessment, nutrition education, breastfeeding support and health referrals. The Senior WIC Nutrition Assistant Lead also oversees the daily operations of the assigned WIC site, ensuring all WIC policies and procedures are followed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role
  • Bachelor of Science in nutrition or nutrition related field
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of California WIC Program
  • Strong desire to serve and work with a culturally diverse and low income population
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
  • General office equipment including, but not limited to, computers, video conferencing software, telephones, copy and fax machines
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and walking
  • Noisy clinic environment with young children and infants
  • May require the ability to move up to 20 lbs. with proper equipment
  • Schedule will require some Saturdays and evenings
  • May need to travel and work at other SYHealth WIC sites
  • Pre-employment requirements include I-9, physical, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, pre-employment PPDs. Compliance with all mandated vaccinations and all boosters is a term and condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of WIC experience preferred
  • Knowledge of community health center environment desirable

Responsibilities

  • Perform nutrition assessments, determine nutritional risks and prescribe and issue WIC food benefits
  • Provide group and one on one nutrition and breastfeeding education
  • Issue breast pumps according to the agency’s policies and procedures
  • Coordinate medical formulas
  • Void, exchange, and re-issue food benefits as needed
  • Give referrals, as needed, to other programs
  • Lead assigned WIC site by enforcing WIC policies and procedures
  • Assist with employee performance goals and improvement guidance
  • Assist with continuous quality improvement (CQI) audits of employees
  • Account for office supply and submit orders when needed
  • Assist with equipment inventory
  • Assist with agency employee work schedule
  • Provide and assist with the training of new and existing employees
  • Create an environment of belonging
  • Collects, screen and document income, address and category information for WIC certification adhering to WIC program policies for separation of duties
  • Input data into WIC WISE
  • Call participants to remind them of their appointment or re-schedule missed appointment(s)
  • Participate in program linkages, referral and outreach activities
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safely, environmental and infection control standards
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops
  • Attend meetings as required and participates on committees as directed
  • Perform related duties as assigned or requested
