Join our enthusiastic and dedicated team this summer! www.summer.waynflete.org Position: Assistant Director for Mini Flyers Camp (4 and 5 year olds) Excited about working with pre-Kindergarten children in a dynamic camp setting? Ready to help campers explore different themes through storytelling, creative movement, art and music? We’re looking for a Mini Flyers Assistant Director to work with the Mini Flyers Program Director to deliver a mix of structured activities, indoor and outdoor freeplay. The Assistant Director reports to the Camp Director, and supports the Program Director in delivering an unforgettable summer camp experience. Location: Waynflete School | 360 Spring Street | Portland, ME Compensation: $22.50 - $24.00 / hour based on experience. Dates of Employment: 6 week commitment, weeks noted below Pre-Camp Training: Exact dates & times TBD - week of June 15, 2026 Camp Weeks: 6/22, 6/29, 7/6, 7/13, 7/20, 7/27 Camp is closed on 7/3, in observation of Independence Day Camp Hours: Camp Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday - Friday Program Hours: approximately 7:45am to 3:45pm daily

Requirements

  • 21+ years of age.
  • 2+ years of experience working with early childhood age children (3-5 years old).
  • Experience in a leadership role.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High level of organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Able to manage risks and operate with a safety mindset.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certified.
  • Comfortable handling basic First Aid/medical needs.
  • Comfortable leading campers and staff using best practices in group management, including: clear communication of behavioral expectations, supporting the participation and success of all campers, and navigating misbehaviors.
  • Able to communicate with parents/guardians in a clear, calm and professional manner.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Mini-Flyers Program Director and Camp Leadership Team to: Design a daily program schedule with special attention to shared spaces and resources.
  • Inventory and procure all supplies needed within budget.
  • Communicate about camper behavior, injuries or other incidents.
  • Manage program specific operations including camper attendance, staff schedules, daily camp schedule, field trips, and morning meetings.
  • Lead activities such as: games, songs, program projects, lessons and more.
  • Lead lessons with enthusiasm, creativity and professionalism.
  • Supervise and guide campers throughout the camp day.
  • Oversee and coach Counselors and Programs Assistants.
  • Complete morning prep and end of day clean up responsibilities.
  • Communicate camper incidents in a timely manner to the Camp Director.
  • Proactively communicate any issues or concerns that could impact our campers’ experience or program quality to the Camp Director.
  • Lead by example in respect and care for the community and campus.
  • Create group unity by building a safe and inclusive environment for campers and counselors.
  • Present a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Keep the safety of campers and the camp team in mind at all times.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and pre-season training sessions.
