About The Position

The Assistant Director of Interdisciplinary Literacy serves as the visionary leader responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive literacy initiatives that transcend traditional, single-subject boundaries. This position oversees the integration of literacy skills across disciplines, fostering a culture of critical thinking, communication, and creativity in support of student achievement and academic excellence.

Requirements

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • Master’s degree in Education, Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in K-8 education, with expertise in literacy instruction and curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of current research in educational leadership and school reform
  • Demonstrated knowledge of early literacy development, emergent literacy skills, and evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in interdisciplinary education, curriculum integration, or educational administration.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze data, evaluate program effectiveness, and make data-informed decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strategic vision and comprehensive plan for interdisciplinary literacy initiatives that align with district goals, educational standards, and research-based best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish clear objectives, priorities, and performance metrics to guide the implementation and evaluation of literacy programs.
  • Lead efforts to integrate literacy instruction through content areas, including language arts, social studies, science, mathematics, and the arts.
  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Innovative and Experiential Learning, instructional coaches, and content-area teachers to identify opportunities for interdisciplinary connections and alignment.
  • Leads staff development sessions for ELA and Social Studies Teachers, including Interventionists.
  • Provide coaching, modeling, and support to teachers to enhance their capacity to integrate literacy skills into diverse instructional contexts.
  • Supervise and support instructional coaches specializing in literacy and ELA, providing mentorship, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with instructional coaches to establish goals, strategies, and action plans to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Develop and implement assessment protocols, tools, and strategies to measure student literacy growth and proficiency across disciplines.
  • Implement early literacy assessment protocols and tools to monitor student progress and identify areas of growth and need.
  • Analyze assessment data, student work samples, and performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of interdisciplinary literacy initiatives and inform instructional planning, intervention strategies, and differentiated instruction.
  • Conducts research and ensures implementation of best instructional strategies.
  • Assists administration in identifying program needs for ELA and Social Studies curriculum.
  • Assists with the selection and purchase of curriculum resources for ELA and Social Studies
  • Assists in the planning, development, and coordination of the district professional learning calendar.
  • Monitors and provides support for ELA and Social Studies curriculum delivery.
  • Engage families, caregivers, and community partners in supporting literacy development both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, libraries, and cultural institutions to provide literacy-rich experiences and resources for students and families.
  • Assists in the evaluation of the district and school-level professional development for impact on increased teacher effectiveness and improved academic achievement.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors concerning pertinent aspects of the district and school-level curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development programs.
  • Supports the development and implementation of innovative, effective, and evidence-based instructional programs to increase achievement for all students.
  • Remains current in state and federal program guidelines, procedures, rules, and laws.
  • Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee.
