About The Position

The Assistant Director of Athletics Communications, reporting to the Associate Director of Athletics for Communications, has a service-oriented role, requiring interactions within the Department of Athletics across a broad range of individuals and throughout department hierarchy, with administrators, coaches, and student-athletes, as well as with the media as a representative of Georgetown University. They assist in all aspects of public relations for assigned sports, including game coverage (with pre- and post- coverage), proactive and reactive media efforts, and maintenance of dissemination of all statistics. As well, they coordinate media and public relations functions, including contributing to website content for www.guhoyas.com, encompassing web streaming, video editing, social media and other multimedia. The Assistant Director of Athletics Communications manages publicity efforts for assigned sports, including communications with media for event coverage and feature stories on Georgetown student-athletes, teams and athletic accomplishments. They design, write and edit online and printed information guides, game programs, and press releases; and coordinate social media and networking initiatives, as well administer historical archiving of team information, records and photos.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree - preferably in communications, public relations, journalism or another appropriate field
  • At least one year of full-time experience in sports information or athletic communications within intercollegiate athletics is preferred
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) and statistical programs utilized for various sports (e.g., Stat Crew, NCAA Live Stats) - strongly encouraged, but not required
  • Strong writing, interpersonal communication and computer skills
  • Willingness to work a great deal of overtime, including evenings and weekends
