About The Position

Multi-faceted role with responsibility for individual career coaching, coordinating career development programs and workshops, and coordinating recruiting initiatives, events, and programs that connect students with experiential learning and professional opportunities. Responsible for the mock interview program, supervises student staff, collects and reports engagement data, and contributes to The Career Center's overall mission of empowering career choice and readiness for Illinois students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in career development, student programming, or student success initiatives in an academic environment.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and facilitating educational programs, workshops, and/or delivering public presentations.
  • (Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
  • Excellent public speaking, writing, and listening skills with ability to clearly articulate thoughts and ideas.
  • Openness, inclusiveness, sensitivity to cultural differences, and the ability to interact with all people, understand individual differences, and relate with a diverse student population.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with ability to exercise sound reasoning to analyze issues and make data-informed decisions.
  • Personal accountability, effective work habits, and ability to handle multiple work priorities.
  • Ability to work within a team structure while leveraging the strengths of others to achieve common goals.
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with colleagues and stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in student affairs, education, human resources, counseling, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Coach students as they explore, prepare for, and pursue the career goals and professional aspirations, including pursuit of internships or other experiential learning opportunities, post-graduation employment, and graduate/professional degrees.
  • Develop and deliver student-facing workshops, primarily focused on developing career management skills.
  • Engage in outreach activities designed to engage various student populations in career development services and resources.
  • Lead and coordinate the Mock Interview Program.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national employers who recruit Illinois students.
  • Assist with campus recruiting events, including the Hire Illini Career and Internship Fair and the Illinois/EIU Education Fair.
  • Lead planning and administration of Part-Time Job Fair and related student employment initiatives.
  • Organize programs and events for employers/alumni to engage in and connect with students in coordination with other Career Center teams.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise paraprofessional student staff who deliver peer-to-peer services, workshops, and programs.
  • Assess, analyze, and report on engagement and impact of services and programs and facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the design, creation, and maintenance of print and online resources related to employer engagement and professional connections.
  • Serve on The Career Center, Student Affairs and/or campus committees, task forces , and work groups.
  • Participate in professional development activities and associations, as well as participate in continual training to stay up to date on trends in early talent recruitment.
