About The Position

Food For Less Piggly Wiggly on Mobile Hwy is seeking a full-time Assistant Deli Department Manager who enjoys serving customers and providing excellent, courteous, and prompt customer service. We are a locally owned full-service grocery store. Job Summary: The Assistant Deli Department Supervisor role is responsible for providing guidance and oversight of the assigned area with direction from the department manager and store manager during assigned shifts. Duties also include, in coordination with the Department Manager and Store Manager, managing and training staff, prepping and cooking, maintaining a clean and organized work area following all safety and sanitation procedures, and providing excellent customer service to all patrons.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Previous experience managing in a deli/cooking environment
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to obtain Food Manager certification within 12 months
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)

Responsibilities

  • Provides continuous attention to customer needs; greet, assist, and thank customers in a prompt, courteous and friendly manner.
  • Responsible for the food preparation in the department to include inventory, prepping, cooking, and cleaning.
  • Organizes, assists, and backs up all managerial duties throughout the department.
  • Provides leadership and guidance; analyzes situations and implement solutions independently or through the management of others.
  • Assists with merchandising initiatives to drive sales while ensuring overall cleanliness and organization of the store area.
  • In coordination with department and store management, assists in the administration of performance management by diagnosing improvement opportunities, providing effective feedback, coaching, and corrective action plans.
  • Assists in directing the activities and training of personnel for efficient operation of concessions and turnover of floor with optimum cleanliness and appearance.
  • Aides in the daily operations for merchandising, weekly payroll, scheduling, and established sales goals.
  • Operates department equipment and tools in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Reinforces and models safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues and notify store management.
  • Notifies management of team member theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized mark-downs, property defacement or any action that is illegal and/or against company policy.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area, including cleaning equipment and utensils.
  • Practices preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
  • Understands the company’s checkout/purchasing procedures to include how customers and staff pay for items in the store.
  • Reports pricing discrepancies to Management and/or Pricing/Scan Coordinator.
  • Follows established policies and procedures (where applicable) for rewards programs, gift cards, and coupons.
  • Adheres to all food safety regulations and guidelines to include maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
  • Assists with inventory management and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to include stocking, cleaning, etc.
