About The Position

The Assistant Dean of Students for Student Life and Operations (ADSLO) is a twelve-month full-time staff member of the Division of Student Affairs reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students (AVP/DOS). The ADSLO is a key member of the Vice President of Student Affairs and Athletics’ leadership team and is a highly visible student-centered leader in Student Affairs. This Assistant Dean is tasked with providing vision and leadership to create and foster a healthy, safe, and inclusive robust campus life for a diverse student population. The ADSLO is tasked with providing leadership and oversight for the departments of Residence Life, Campus Dining, and Student Care. The ADSLO also serves as the lead Title IX Deputy Coordinator, chief student conduct officer, and provides coordination and oversight for summer camps. As a key member of the Vice President’s senior leadership, this assistant dean provides critical leadership in delivering a dynamic and successful student experience within a vibrant and progressive campus culture. A successful assistant dean will be an experienced higher education administrator with (1) demonstrated experience centralizing diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging in student serving programs and processes, (2) a team oriented leadership style and professional philosophy, (3) and a professional career plan to advance to senior leadership in Student Affairs. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, counseling, business administration, or law from an accredited college or university
  • Five years of related experience in an academic setting
  • Experience in higher education, particularly in the area(s) of student development, programming, residence life, student government, student retention, orientation
  • Experience supervising professional staff
  • Demonstrated experience working with college students
  • Demonstrated experience in administration, budget management, assessment, problem-solving, and crisis or emergency response
  • Demonstrated experience in policy interpretation, application, and compliance

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated leadership within state and/or national professional associations (e.g., NODA, NASPA, UPSIL)
  • Demonstrated experience with institutional level programming for signature events, such as Commencement, Convocation, student leadership summits, and campus-wide orientation
  • Experience with software packages: Persona, eRezLife, Advocate, Maxient, WebAdvisor, Self-Service, THD, StarRez, Slate

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise the Director of Residence Life and Student Dining and provide oversight of professional staff, Residence Life Community Leaders, and student staff.
  • Directly supervise the Director of Student Care who provides support to students experiencing challenges, manages a student case load, oversees campus food pantry (Purple Basket), delivers federally mandated drug and alcohol prevention programming, serves as a deputy Title IX coordinator, and acts as the coordinator of BIT (Behavioral Intervention Team).
  • Directly support the General Manager of Campus Dining, a Sodexo partner. Collaborative work includes programming, education, university calendar and operational schedules, communications, website, and student experience.
  • Provide day-to-day oversight of contractual obligations related to beverage and food service vendor. This may include policy interpretation, supervision and compliance.
  • Provide financial oversight of department budgets totaling approximately $400,000+. Provide support and education to department directors in the annual budget development process.
  • Provide leadership and logistics coordination for cross-unit operational teams providing campus services that support summer camps.
  • Collaborate with Student Success and Retention Team in coordination of retention and matriculation initiatives related to work areas in portfolio.
  • Foster and maintain strategic partnerships with Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Account Services, Registrar, Facilities, Athletics, and departments within the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Produce departmental assessment plans that expand the potential for student success by utilizing a data-informed approach to student programming that positively contributes to retention and graduation rates.
  • Develop, analyze, and generate departmental reports containing descriptive analytical and evaluative content generated by completing formative and summative assessment.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority and Mandatory Reporter
  • Data management, facility management, assessment, and reporting
  • Assist students and other parties in policy understanding and application
  • Provide collaborative leadership and coordination of high-profile institutional events including convocation and commencement
