About The Position

The Assistant Dean for Graduate Nursing Studies provides strategic and operational leadership for all graduate-level nursing programs, including the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), and Post-Graduate Certificate programs. This role works in close collaboration with the Dean and Associate Dean for Nursing Affairs to advance the mission and goals of the School of Nursing, the College of Nursing and Health Professions, and the University. Works closely with program directors and the Associate Dean for Accreditation and Evaluation to ensure consistent implementation of the nursing curriculum across the graduate nursing program. The position requires a consistent on-campus administrative presence and reports directly to the Associate Dean for Nursing Affairs.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Nursing or related field
  • BSN or MSN in Nursing required.
  • Educational/administrative experience in a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Unencumbered Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) certification (preferred)
  • Experience in more than one graduate nursing program (preferable)

Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Scholarship:
  • Maintains an appropriate graduate-level teaching load 15-18 workload units annually (Fall, Spring, and Summer)
  • Demonstrates a scholarly approach to teaching, curriculum development, and professional engagement.
  • Contributes to the advancement of nursing knowledge and education through research, presentations, and publications.
  • Program Leadership & Oversight:
  • Provides overall management and direction for graduate nursing programs.
  • Develops and maintains course (didactic and practicum) schedules to ensure program efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Participates in curriculum development and revisions to maintain academic excellence and relevance.
  • Faculty & Staff Engagement:
  • Provides input to the Dean and Associate Dean regarding faculty and staff performance and program needs.
  • Assists in planning and supporting faculty professional development activities, including continuing education and conference participation.
  • Professional Service:
  • Participates in school, college, and university committees and initiatives.
  • Maintains active membership in relevant professional organizations and contributes service to the profession.
  • Engages in service activities that enhance the visibility and impact of the graduate nursing program.
  • Policy & Compliance:
  • Collaborates with faculty and administration to establish and implement policies for graduate student admission, progression, retention, and graduation.
  • Coordinates preparation of accreditation materials and annual reports in compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies.
  • Student & Community Engagement:
  • Maintains and expands community partnerships to support student recruitment and practicum placement.
  • Serves as a resource and mentor to graduate students and faculty.
