Ask us how we do it at the Y- it's awesome! What is needed for this job as our Summer Camp Counselor: 18+ years of age 3+ years of experience working in a Camp or Recreational Environment. Desire and ability to work with people of all ages Thorough understanding and appreciation for child and adolescent development and ability to design and implement programs, policies and protocols to support that development Ability to communicate and work with individuals or groups participating in environmental education, and provide necessary instruction to campers, parents and staff Ability to operate motor vehicles and meet the safe driving requirements of the association Ability to motivate staff and customers Excellent written and oral communication skills High-energy and creativity with a strong grasp of the YMCA mission Additional certifications (WFR, WFA, LGT, WSI, Ropes, etc.) a plus Exhibit strong leadership skills; possess a passion for member service, building and maintaining a culture of member service excellence The responsibilities we will trust you with as our Summer Camp Counselor: Trains and manages associated staff and volunteers, engages and cultivates key internal and external relationships, and creates & implements sustainable improvement plans Ensures that all program areas are managed to exceed compliance and risk management expectations Schedules and coordinates all activity sessions, evening programs and special events, ensures appropriate staff assignments and support Lead the planning and development of camp programs and acts as a key leadership team member in our Summer Camping Programs Supervises and evaluates the performance of their program staff Ensure related program and facility/equipment compliance with safety, risk management and accreditation/licensing standards. Maintain records for inspections and staff certifications. Maintain current associated certifications and training, and remain current on applicable laws and standards Schedule and coordinate all related program activities and facilities. Ensure appropriate staff assignments and support Lead the planning and carry out the development of all assigned programs to reflect the goals and objectives set by the Team Leader and the Executive Leader, and the mission of the YMCA Maintain supplies and equipment inventory for related programs Be actively involved in the local community and the YMCA community through trainings and volunteering or being a member of a related organization to further your learning and networking Ensure program staff engage in housekeeping of the camp buildings, including cabins, dining halls, and program facilities during and after any group stay Lead by example at all times. Requirements

  • 18+ years of age
