About The Position

Primary Purpose: Assists the Custodial Supervisor in all custodial staff and activities, ensuring all facilities are clean, safe, and functional, and manage the custodial budget, supplies, and equipment for all VISD facilities . Helps establish and supervise cleaning schedules, inspect facilities, troubleshoot maintenance and security issues, and coordinate with administrators, staff, and vendors the cleanliness and efficiency of building operations and grounds. Ensures service requests are submitted to Maintenance for all work beyond the scope of custodial staff. Qualification Guidelines: Education/Certifications: High School diploma or GED Valid Texas Driver’s License Experience: Five years’ experience in custodial services within VISD or other public-school system preferred Two year’s leadership experience leading teams preferred Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 1. Strong communicationskills to work effectively with administrators, staff, students, and vendors. 2. Strong leadership skills to lead, train, and mentora staffof over 100 personnel with the assistance of Custodial Supervisor. 3. Knowledge of routine custodian practices and methods 4. Knowledge of equipment, chemicals and materials used in cleaning processes 5. Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance 6. Ability to manage personnel 7. Effective planning and organizational skills Supervisory Responsibilities: Staff and activity management: Assist’s the Custodial Supervisor in the planning, coordination, evaluation, and direction of all custodial activities, including assigning tasks,monitoringcompletion, training staff, and managing the custodial budget and finances district wide. Facility maintenance: Assist’s the Custodial Supervisor in ensuring all school facilities and grounds aremaintainedto high standards of cleanliness, safety, and functionality. This includes performing or supervising routine and emergency cleaning and maintenance. Operations andlogistics: Assist’s the Custodial Supervisor in the tracking of inventory for cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring equipment ismaintained, and follows directed cleaning schedules for all areas like classrooms, restrooms, and gyms. Safety and security: Respond to emergency calls for custodialassistanceand reports security and maintenance concerns to the appropriate personnel. Reporting: Conducts regular inspections under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor and generates reports on cleanliness, equipment performance, and overall housekeeping. In the absence of the Custodial Supervisor, assumes the role of the Custodial Supervisor. Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands: Tools/Equipment Used: Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, hand tools, shampooer, and light truck or van Posture/Motion/Lifting: Frequent walking, standing, climbing and heavy lifting and carrying Environment: Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders; exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials. Frequent district wide travel Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; communicate effectively and professionally at all times.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Records, Reports, and Correspondence Prepare correspondence, memorandums, administrative forms, and related documents for the supervisor.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
  • Set up and maintain secure convenience files on custodian department employees in accordance with state, federal, and district requirements.
  • Receive and audit time sheets for all custodian department employees.
  • Ensure all training is completed in a timely manner of all custodial staff.
  • Maintain inventory of all custodial equipment (over $1 million).
  • Phones Answer incoming calls, take messages, and route them to appropriate staff.
  • Handle questions and requests that fall within level of responsibility.
  • Cover campus shortage when custodians call in, which consist of calling in custodians to cover or covering the position yourself.
  • Accounting Perform routine bookkeeping tasks and maintain department budget records in an accurate manner.
  • Order supplies for department and assist with managing the distribution to various campuses and departments.
  • Compile and report time records, including leave requests and reports, and prepare payroll on department employees.
  • Other Welcome all visitors and handle their requests or refer them to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain effective rapport with general public and handle any problems or concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Assist supervisor with applications, screening and checking references.
  • Maintain calendar of department activities, staff schedules, staff availability and make appointments as required.
  • Make meeting arrangements including arranging and setting up facilities and equipment and preparing materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
