The Anoka County Attorney’s Office has an immediate opening for Assistant County Attorney who will perform various duties. This position will work within the Anoka County Attorney’s Office Civil Division which is responsible for legal and advisory services as prescribed by the County Attorney to effectively represent the County. Attorneys may be assigned to advise County departments and/or law enforcement in areas including employment, purchasing, drafting and enforcing contracts, administrative appeals, collections, probate, legal compliance, litigation, appellate issues, and data practices. This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Minnesota
  • Successfully complete a background investigation

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of paid Court of Appeals, Federal or District Court Judicial Clerkship
  • Experience in effective presentation of cases to a court, arbitrator, referee, mediator, tribunal, or other finder of fact, including rules of court and evidence
  • Experience conducting legal research and data analysis
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with clients, coworkers, and others
  • Using technology in everyday practice

Responsibilities

  • Represent Anoka County in hearings, trials, appeals, and other legal proceedings and matters
  • Conduct pretrial/prehearing preparations
  • Review various legal resources in support of legal
  • Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda of law, and appellate briefs
  • Research, analyze and interpret existing laws, regulations and cases
  • Gather evidence, interview witnesses, and effectively present findings and arguments in state and federal court or to other tribunals and finders of fact
  • Confer with parties and the public and negotiate settlements
  • Provide legal opinions and training to Anoka County employees in assigned subject-matter
  • Prepare post-hearing motions and appeals, render legal opinions, review motions and other legal documents, confer with and provide legal counsel to county departments, officials, and employees
  • Draft ordinances, rules, and policies
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group as assigned
