About The Position

A large, mission-driven faith-based nonprofit organization serving the Los Angeles community and global partners is looking for an Assistant Controller to join their accounting team. The Assistant Controller will join an accounting team of over 10 professionals in an organization that hands a high volume of transactions and grant agreements. A strong background in nonprofit accounting and an accounting degree is required. The ideal candidate brings hands-on technical strength, experience operating in a structured or union-supported environment, and the ability to bring organization and oversight to a high-volume setting. The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and will oversee the AP team, including reviewing their work. Responsibilities include reviewing journal entries, leading account reconciliation clean-up and coordination efforts, strengthening internal review procedures, and ensuring accuracy across the general ledger. This role will also partner closely with the development team to properly account for complex donation transactions, pledges, and related adjustments, while supporting the oversight and distribution of numerous grant agreements to community partners and service providers. The Assistant Controller will join a nonprofit with an annual operating budget of approximately $60M. The organization convenes community stakeholders, mobilizes philanthropic resources, and directs funding to support community security initiatives, social services for vulnerable populations, leadership development programs, and international relief efforts. This is a direct hire opportunity based in Los Angeles with a hybrid schedule (3–4 days in office weekly).
