About The Position

The Thrasher Group Inc. is a leading architecture, engineering, and field services consulting firm serving the Mid-Atlantic region. Our expert team delivers a wide range of professional services across five major markets: architecture, land development, water resources, transportation, and energy. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our Finance team at our Bridgeport, WV headquarters. This role will support expanding reporting needs across the organization and play a key part in strengthening our financial operations as the company continues to grow. The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and work closely with the Controller. This position is ideal for an accounting professional with strong foundational experience—particularly in public accounting or audit—who is pursuing (or plans to pursue) a CPA and is preparing for a future leadership path, including progression into the Controller role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • CPA-eligible or pursuing CPA
  • 2–3+ years in public accounting or audit
  • Strong understanding of GAAP

Nice To Haves

  • CPA licensure
  • Experience working in a professional services organization.
  • Experience with ERP software is highly desired.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools.
  • Understanding of S-Corp and multi-entity reporting
  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset

Responsibilities

  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
  • Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and account reconciliations
  • Assist with financial statement preparation
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls
  • Manage billing, cash receipts, AP/AR processes
  • Support payroll processing
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Assist with monthly financial reporting packets and KPIs
  • Prepare supporting schedules for audits and tax filings
  • Contribute to forecasting and budgeting
  • Support increased internal reporting needs
  • Work with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
  • Assist with WIP analysis and revenue recognition
  • Support job costing and project manager reporting
  • Contribute to KPI calculations
  • Identify workflow improvements
  • Improve close processes and reconciliations
  • Support system enhancements and automation
