About The Position

The Assistant Comptroller is responsible to the Comptroller for performing takes related to financial statement and report preparation to include coordination of the annual audit process with the Division of State Audit. Duties include coordinating and overseeing the preparation of annual reports submitted to the Tennessee Board of Regents and overseeing preparation of any financial reports submitted to the Board of Trustees. It requires independently researching, reconciling, balancing, and maintaining responsibility of the financial records behind the accounting reports. The Assistant Comptroller is responsible for performing an annual review of ETSU financial procedures, along with making recommendations, coordinating implementation of those changes, and communicating them to the university community.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of University, Tennessee Board of Regents, state and federal rules, regulations, procedures, and accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standards.
  • Knowledge of auditing theories, practices, and methods.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to governmental financial operations in higher education.
  • Ability to stay current in accounting regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to facilitate and create a team-based working environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze financial reports.
  • Ability to work with a computerized online accounting system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
  • Troubleshooting, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities necessary to meet daily challenges of responsibilities.
  • Ability to schedule time and to work efficiently under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and a minimum of five years of accounting experience OR An equivalent combination of education and work experience

Nice To Haves

  • CPA licensure
  • Experience with enterprise financial systems, specifically Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning module (ERP)
  • Experience with higher education
