About The Position

The Assistant Coach I, Climbing is a part-time, hourly position reporting to the Head Coach for Climbing. This role supports the coaching, development, and administration of Westminster University’s Climbing program, which participates in the USA Climbing Collegiate Series. The Assistant Coach plays a key role in recruiting and retaining student-athletes, assisting with practices and competitions, and supporting the academic, athletic, and personal development of team members, along with other responsibilities. This position requires a commitment to student-athlete welfare, academic success, and the University’s mission and values. The role involves a flexible schedule with evenings, weekends, and travel, and demands both independent initiative and effective teamwork in a dynamic, student-centered environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrate record of success in coaching and recruiting student athletes at the youth or collegiate level
  • Up to one year of relevant work experience
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong leadership, motivational and organizational skills
  • Effective interpersonal and public relation communication skills
  • Ability to create a positive atmosphere conducive to learning
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with high standards and goals
  • Commitment to high academic and professional standards
  • Schedule outside normal business hours
  • This position will require some irregular work schedule including days, nights, weekends and travel some.
  • Some travel throughout the year and/or at specified times of the year will be required.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch required.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach with the recruitment and retention of qualified student athletes
  • General knowledge of competitive collegiate Climbing and experience in coaching Climbing
  • Assist with coaching during practices, competitions, and camps
  • Assist the head coach with administrative tasks as assigned which includes the following but not limited to: 1. Travel arrangements 2. Overseeing academic progress of student athletes 3. Team equipment 4. Fundraising activities 5. Community service
  • Compliance with institutional, conference and national governing regulations
  • Required to provide and/or secure and maintain CPR, AED and First Aid Certification
  • Commitment to welfare and development of student athletes
  • Work closely with other staff to promote Climbing as an integral part of the university learning environment and support the academic success of student-athletes
  • Perform all responsibilities with the highest ethical standards consistent with the University’s mission, vision and values which include diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Perform other duties as assigned
