POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Football Coach plays a significant role in the holistic development of student-athletes by promoting academic achievement, eligibility, persistence/retention, and positive team culture. The Assistant Football Coach collaborates closely with the Head Coach, academic support staff, and athletics administration to ensure student-athletes succeed on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2-3 years related experience
  • Must have working and/or player knowledge of NCAA, NAIA, or KCAC rules and regulations
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable
  • Affinity with the overall mission of the University of Saint Mary

Responsibilities

  • Support oversight of conduct, discipline and positive character development of student-athletes by using the guidelines and principles of the USM Mission and the NAIA Champions of Character initiative.
  • Uphold and model high standards of sportsmanship, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Teach and promote the USM Mission values of community, respect, justice and excellence.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes consistent with institutional standards and program needs.
  • Support roster management through evaluation, retention efforts, and development plans for current players.
  • Assist with NAIA, KCAC and USM policies pertaining to recruitment and student-athlete eligibility.
  • Promote a culture of academic accountability, including class attendance expectations, time management, and consistent communication with academic support resources.
  • Reinforce expectations and accountability for conduct, eligibility, and academic integrity.
  • Work with the Athletic Department in all sport promotions and fundraising efforts.
  • Perform on field and position coaching duties as determined by Head Coach.
  • Available for teaching duties up to 4 hours per academic year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Administration.
