About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Athletics is searching for a Part-Time Assistant Football Coach (Defense) in its NCAA Division III program. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing assistance to the head coach or designee with all aspects of the football program. The position will start as soon as possible, with the spring term running from the hire date until April 30, 2026. Otherwise, it is a part-time, seasonal role from August 1, 2026, to April 30, 2027. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 1-3 years athletic coaching experience required; knowledge of computer software for film breakdown and recruiting is highly desired
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
  • Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)
  • Motor Vehicle Records (MVR)
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.
  • CMU is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.

Responsibilities

  • Coaching your individual position group as assigned by the Head Football Coach
  • Assist head coach, coordinator(s), or designee with planning, implementation and supervision of practice sessions.
  • Demonstrating competency in sport skill instruction, motivation and ability to conduct practice sessions under the direction of the head coach.
  • Recruit diverse and hardworking student athletes via phone, email or personal contact to a nationally competitive program
  • Film Analysis and Breakdown
  • Travel Arrangements
  • involvement with Alumni and recruiting events
  • Recruiting communications and material compilation
  • leadership development, etc.
  • Demonstrate sincere interest in personal, academic and athletic progress of student-athletes.
  • Other duties as assigned
