About The Position

The Assistant Football Coach will support the Head Coach in leading and maintaining the football program, including developing game plans, overseeing training and conditioning programs, organizing practice sessions, and recruiting talented student-athletes. This role focuses on maximizing on-field performance, fostering student-athlete development, and ensuring competitive success at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision level, while prioritizing the academic, personal, and athletic welfare of all student-athletes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years coaching experience; 3–5 years at the collegiate level preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in NCAA Division I football programs, including knowledge of NCAA rules, compliance, and certification requirements.
  • Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain student-athletes who excel athletically and academically.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; ability to mentor staff and student-athletes.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, diverse, and professional team environment.
  • Willingness to travel, work evenings/weekends, and participate in camps, clinics, and fundraising events.

Responsibilities

  • Football Program Leadership Plan, organize, and manage all aspects of the football program, including game plans, practice sessions, and training/conditioning programs, ensuring competitive success at the conference, regional, and national levels.
  • Student-Athlete Development & Academic Support Mentor, develop, and retain student-athletes, supporting both athletic performance and academic progress, while monitoring eligibility, retention, and APR compliance.
  • Recruiting & Talent Acquisition Assess and actively recruit student-athletes who align with the University’s athletic and academic standards to maintain a high-performing, competitive roster.
  • Community Engagement & Program Advancement Build and maintain relationships with alumni, parents, boosters, and the broader community; support fundraising, media promotion, camps, and outreach initiatives while representing the University with integrity and fostering an inclusive environment. Promote the sport in the state, New England, the region and nationally and assist the head coach assist the head coach in the pursuit of strong print and media attention.
  • Compliance Attend all mandatory NCAA compliance meetings and maintain appropriate forms and documentation in office files to be reviewed upon request. Maintain competency with respect to knowledge of, compliance with, state and federal laws, University policies/regulations, Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Conference rules/policies, and NCAA rules. Report to the Director of Athletics any violation of NCAA, conference, and/or institutional rules.
  • Professional Conduct and Program Support Assist the head coach with fundraising, camps, clinics, to support the football program. Represent the University on a high professional level, with dignity, integrity, and strength of character. Respect the rights and dignity of each student-athlete, display sensitivity to diversity issues and work to create an inclusive and welcoming environment.
