Overview: The High School Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in leading and managing athletic programs for high school students (grades 9-12). This role involves assisting with training, managing team activities, and fostering a positive, competitive, and inclusive environment. The Assistant Coach will help design and implement advanced training programs, ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes, and promote the values of FUSD's commitment to educational equity by providing resources necessary for success, removing barriers, valuing diversity, and empowering the community. Key Responsibilities: Coaching and Training: Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting rigorous training sessions that prepare athletes for competition. Provide high-quality coaching that focuses on advanced skills, tactics, sportsmanship, and inclusivity. Monitor the progress and performance of individual athletes and provide feedback to the Head Coach. Team Support: Support the Head Coach in coordinating and overseeing all practices, competitions, and events for high school sports teams. Help cultivate a positive and competitive team culture that promotes excellence, personal growth, and values diversity. Assist in developing leadership skills among student-athletes and support their academic and personal development. Safety and Compliance: Ensure all athletic activities comply with school policies, state regulations, and safety standards. Assist in maintaining accurate records of safety protocols and conducting regular safety drills. Support the health and safety of student-athletes, including first aid and emergency response procedures. Communication and Collaboration: Act as a liaison between the Head Coach, parents, students, and school staff regarding the athletic program. Communicate program expectations, schedules, and updates clearly and effectively. Collaborate with the Head Coach and other staff to integrate athletics with the overall educational experience, empowering the community. Administrative Support: Assist in managing the athletic department's budget and resources efficiently. Help oversee the maintenance and procurement of athletic equipment and facilities. Support fundraising activities to ensure equitable resource distribution. Professional Development: Stay current with the latest trends, techniques, and best practices in high school athletics. Attend workshops, seminars, and certification programs to enhance coaching skills and knowledge.
