About The Position

The Assistant Clinical Manager (ACM) – Operating Room is a Registered Nurse who demonstrates advanced clinical expertise and strong leadership capabilities. In collaboration with the Clinical Manager, the ACM supports the daily operations of the Operating Room and provides independent leadership during off-shifts or in the absence of the Clinical Manager or Director. This role promotes excellence in patient care, staff engagement, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of acute care nursing experience required; five (5) years preferred.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Maryland; or Active RN license from a Nurse Multi-State Compact state designated as “Compact” or “Multi-State Privilege,” meeting Maryland Board of Nursing requirements. A “Single State” compact license does not meet this requirement; Maryland licensure must be obtained.
  • BLS (CPR) certification required in accordance with organizational policy.
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, or other unit-specific certifications required within six (6) months of hire, as applicable.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and healthcare information systems.
  • Strong commitment to collaboration, accountability, and patient-centered care.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership experience preferred (e.g., committee chair, resource nurse, educator, or management role).
  • Operating Room experience strongly preferred.
  • Professional certification in clinical specialty preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the Operating Room.
  • Provide independent leadership and decision-making support during off-shifts or when leadership is off-site.
  • Oversee staff scheduling, payroll processes, and personnel resource allocation.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels while minimizing unnecessary overtime.
  • Coach and mentor staff to promote accountability, professional growth, and high performance.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development initiatives.
  • Partner with the Clinical Manager to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Support and lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Monitor and address adherence to clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Ensure nursing practice aligns with professional standards, evidence-based practice, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Promote compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and the ANA Code of Ethics.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Foster strong communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Identify communication barriers and implement solutions to improve care coordination and outcomes.
  • Support customer service initiatives that enhance the patient and family experience.
  • Promote a caring, healing, and professional environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Deliver therapeutic, compassionate care that respects patient autonomy, dignity, values, and beliefs.
  • Advocate for patients and significant others to ensure their needs are addressed.
  • Participate in cost management initiatives and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Support achievement of financial performance goals while maintaining high-quality patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accountability for nursing practice and standards of care within the Operating Room.
  • Empower nurses to apply critical thinking, synthesize clinical knowledge, and utilize evidence-based practice.
  • Encourage staff participation in decision-making that impacts clinical practice and workflow.
