About The Position

A large, acute care hospital and Level III Trauma Center in Manchester, NH is seeking an experienced Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) to support executive nursing leadership. This role works in close partnership with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to advance high-quality, patient-centered care through strategic planning, operational oversight, and leadership development. The ACNO provides operational and functional leadership for assigned patient care areas, special projects, and organizational initiatives, while developing the competencies required to progress into a Chief Nursing Officer role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) – Required
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing – Required
  • 5+ years of supervisory nursing experience – Required
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in an acute care hospital – Required
  • Inpatient Medical-Surgical Director-level experience – Required
  • Demonstrated job stability required (no interim candidates or frequent job changes)
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or a valid compact license, in accordance with state regulations

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures aligned with regulatory and professional standards
  • Conduct leadership rounds with patients, families, physicians, and staff to promote communication and operational alignment
  • Lead and support performance improvement initiatives focused on quality outcomes and patient safety
  • Ensure timely follow-up on patient complaints, occurrence reports, and corrective action plans
  • Promote a consistent, patient-centered approach to care delivery
  • Support service recovery initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction
  • Foster a professional practice environment that supports recruitment, retention, and staff engagement
  • Encourage evidence-based practice and participation in clinical research
  • Provide leadership that promotes autonomy, accountability, and critical thinking among nursing staff
  • Support shared governance, staff engagement, and ownership of departmental goals
  • Oversee staff education, professional development, and continuing education initiatives
  • Collaborate with nursing education teams to ensure effective onboarding and competency development
  • Maintain strong interdisciplinary relationships with physicians and clinical leaders
  • Assist with planning and implementation of new services that support organizational growth
  • Participate in renovation, expansion, and construction projects impacting patient care areas
  • Lead assigned projects or task forces to achieve defined outcomes
