The City of Sandy Springs is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Maintenance Chief Engineer to help manage and maintain a portfolio of Class A properties—including a Performing Arts Center, Multi-Use Theater, and Municipal Building—right in the heart of our vibrant community. As the Assistant Maintenance Chief Engineer, you’ll work closely with the Chief Maintenance Engineer to oversee daily operations, capital projects, and preventive maintenance efforts across multiple facilities. Your day will bring variety—from managing HVAC and mechanical systems to coordinating contractors, creating safety programs, and ensuring top-notch service for our staff and visitors. Requirements

  • At least 7 years of related experience in a commercial property environment.
  • Proven background supervising maintenance operations in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing (MEP) systems.
  • Familiarity with BMS, CMMS, or fire alarm programming systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, customer service, and team leadership skills.
  • Appropriate trade licenses (e.g., Journeyman, Master Universal Technician for CFCs).
  • Willingness to work occasional shifts, holidays, and weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical training in facilities management, engineering, or related field.
  • Electrician or plumbing licenses.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising maintenance and engineering staff, including training and development.
  • Assisting with budgeting, project planning, and financial management for facility operations.
  • Overseeing building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire/life safety) with an eye for efficiency and compliance.
  • Managing preventive maintenance programs and leading safety initiatives.
  • Reviewing plans and specifications to ensure construction and maintenance meet design, budget, and safety standards.
  • Responding to emergencies quickly and effectively to maintain continuous operation.
  • Coordinating shutdowns, inspections, and equipment commissioning for new infrastructure.
