About The Position

As a Building Systems Engineer at JLL, you will serve as the technical expert and operational leader responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all building systems and infrastructure. This critical role combines hands-on technical expertise with oversight of complex mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems to ensure optimal building performance. You will lead a team of seven technicians while serving as the primary point of contact for all engineering operations, coordinating with contractors, ensuring regulatory compliance, and protecting the value of our client's assets. Your technical knowledge, attention to detail, and commitment to operational excellence will directly contribute to creating a safe, comfortable, and efficient environment for all building occupants while maintaining JLL's reputation for outstanding facility management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of experience in building systems engineering, facilities operations, or similar technical roles
  • Hands-on expertise with water systems, boilers, compressors, chillers, HVAC units, and fire systems
  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance practices and ability to develop appropriate maintenance schedules for building systems
  • Proven experience coordinating contractor activities and ensuring quality standards are met
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical teams

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certifications in HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, electrical systems, or related building trades
  • High-pressure boiler license or equivalent stationary engineer certification
  • Experience with Critical Facility Work Authorization (CFWA) processes or similar critical infrastructure protocols
  • OSHA safety training certifications or experience administering safety programs
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for work order and inventory management
  • Experience in commercial, industrial, or mission-critical facilities
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical field

Responsibilities

  • Review and coordinate daily and weekly preventive maintenance schedules for internal technicians and vendors; manage plant operations, respond to emergencies, and direct troubleshooting efforts from the operations team
  • Provide hands-on technical support to technicians with water systems, boilers, compressors, chillers, HVAC units, and fire systems as needed based on plant requirements
  • Monitor, operate, and maintain all building systems including refrigeration, water cooling and air conditioning equipment, boilers, heating and ventilating systems, hot water equipment, pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other mechanical and electrical equipment; review operational logs to ensure proper equipment function and report malfunctions promptly
  • Perform and oversee preventive maintenance and repair activities for HVAC and building systems; determine appropriate frequency schedules for preventive maintenance and repairs to maximize equipment performance and longevity
  • Coordinate and oversee contractor activities within the building, whether working on behalf of the building itself or tenant operations, ensuring work quality and adherence to building standards
  • Identify safety hazards throughout the building and implement remediation measures to ensure a safe environment for staff and occupants; lead safety training initiatives for building personnel
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulatory laws and guidelines related to building infrastructure operations; promptly alert management to any building discrepancies or compliance issues
  • Maintain comprehensive infrastructure and compliance documentation including up-to-date building drawings, single-line diagrams, and all documentation required for regulatory compliance
  • Provide technical training and mentorship to seven technicians to expand their capabilities and enhance overall team performance
