About The Position

The Assistant Chief Engineer (ACE) reports to, and works collaboratively with, the Chief Engineer to support the entire engineering team. The ACE will work alongside the Chief Engineer to create and implement work plans, including leading the team in the successful execution of preventative maintenance work and repairs in the field. The ACE must possess excellent leadership and mentoring abilities. The ACE will fill in for the Chief in their absence.

Requirements

  • High School or GED equivalent
  • Apprenticeship or trade school certificate
  • FDNY Certificates of Fitness to operate and inspect building systems: Q-01 Refrigerating System Operating Engineer, S-12 Supervision of Sprinkler Systems, S-13 Supervision of Standpipe Systems, S-95 supervision of fire alarms, A-35 air compressor, P-98 Fuel oil piping, and F-01 Fire guard certificates, and any other required certificates or licenses.
  • EPA/CFC Universal certification for CFC and HFC based refrigerants (EPA Section 608); to service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release ozone depleting refrigerants to the atmosphere or any similar combination of education and experience
  • 5 years of experience as an Assistant Chief Engineer, or in an Engineering position with increased responsibility over time, for a campus or large facility/venue with significant interaction with the public and high expectations for aesthetics.
  • Proficient and knowledgeable in the supervision of mechanical repairs of all types of HVAC equipment, plumbing systems, electrical systems, and generators
  • Knowledgeable about several types of building construction and systems
  • Personal interest in the application of the latest energy sustainability best practices and a respect for our environment
  • Strong computer skills, specially Building Management Systems and CMMS systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required
  • Effective interpersonal & communication skills that enable the establishment of strong relationships with team members, other departments, tenants and vendors
  • Ability to be agile & flexible with expectations & direction
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions that align with the mission and goals of Lincoln Center
  • Ability to work with integrity, discretion, and a professional approach
  • Experience with supervision, budget management and project management
  • Ability to perform physical labor (lifting, bending, squatting, etc.)
  • Drivers’ license required
  • Must be able to obtain all certificates or licenses as required by Federal, State or Local codes.

Responsibilities

  • In coordination with the Chief, prioritize, plan and assign daily work duties to the engineering team
  • Perform daily rounds of all mechanical systems, documenting condition and developing and implementing plan for resolution of issues
  • Research, plan, and implement staff and equipment trainings for your engineering team.
  • Initiate work orders, assigning staff as applicable, following up and verifying completion of work
  • Maintain a wide range of building systems, including but not limited to: AC units, electrical systems, minor lighting and electrical repair, plumbing systems, backflow valves, fire suppression systems, high- and low-pressure steam and generator maintenance & testing
  • Schedule emergency repair activities according to priority and the abilities of assigned personnel
  • Communicate overall condition of engineering systems to Chief Engineer on regular basis
  • Ensure that building structures and all mechanical and electrical systems are in good and safe condition
  • Provide daily field supervision and support, actively working with the engineering team inclusive of staff assignments, quality control, adherence to established maintenance schedules and protocols
  • Ensure that crew has all necessary licenses and trade certifications, including but not limited to refrigeration license, COF for Standpipe and Sprinklers, etc. and that required ongoing training is being regularly scheduled, and that OSHA, ANSI and other established worker safety guidelines are being observed and maintained in accordance with established local, state, and federal guidelines
  • Track equipment, material and supply inventories and generate purchase requests for same in accordance with established guidelines and within existing budgets
  • Ensure Compliance with all FDNY and NFPA25 fire detection and fire protection systems.
  • Schedule and perform all required testing of systems within house crews and contractors as needed to meet all code mandated frequencies.
  • Review staff time sheets for accuracy
  • Inventory Control-Order and stock engineering supplies/tools to avoid any shortages
  • Recommend cost-effective solutions to maintain building structures and related systems
  • Ensure the work area is clean, safe and organized
  • Cultivate a healthy and supportive culture amongst the Engineering team and collaborate effectively with other campus-wide teams
  • Ensure tools and equipment are in good repair and properly stored
  • Other duties as assigned
