About The Position

The Assistant Camp Director provides an effective overnight camp program by directly supporting the Camp Director with the day-to-day camp operations. This position will supervise department directors, manage unit and program needs, aid the growth and development of all staff members, and assist with planning, development, and implementation of camp logistics, program, and staff training. Compensation for this position is $145 - $155 per day, with the starting rate dependent on previous employment at GSWW camps.? For the 2026 season, overnight camp staff will divide their summer between Camp Robbinswold (located in Lilliwaup, WA) and Camp St. Albans (located in Allyn, WA). They will begin at St. Albans for the first week of training, then transition to Robbinswold for the second week. Staff will work three one-week camper sessions at Robbinswold, take a short break, and then complete three sessions at St. Albans.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with youth 6-17 years old in a camp or recreational setting
  • Supervisory experience (At least one season of a minimum of six weeks in a supervisory capacity, preferably in organized youth activities)
  • Knowledge of and commitment to fostering environments that prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, racial justice, and belonging
  • Comfortable working in a camp setting with a variable work week and hours, including overnight and weekend responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective interactions with individuals at all levels and backgrounds, with the ability to work under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize project tasks and deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to navigate technology programs and platforms independently including Microsoft 365; ability/willingness to learn new technologies, with CampMinder experience strongly preferred
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR or willingness to obtain
  • Current certification of Youth Mental Health First Aid or willingness to obtain
  • Satisfactory results from a criminal background check

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Girl Scout program
  • Experience managing similar youth recreation programs
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record and willingness to transport campers and staff in 12-passenger vans

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Camp Director with day-to-day operations of the overall camp program, assuming the primary leadership position when the camp director is unavailable
  • Manage the partnerships amongst all departments, reviewing weekly program schedules that adhere to camp goals and outcomes
  • Observe and evaluate department directors, scheduling weekly one-on-one meetings with staff to deliver feedback
  • Maintain quality control of programming, ensuring that it matches the abilities and interests of campers
  • Support the development of the summer camp team through planning and facilitating training workshops, regular staff meetings, and coaching and feedback sessions
  • Support and participate in implementing all camp activities such as meals, games, campfires, etc.
  • Carry out established duties for general camp operations including check-in and check-out, bus supervision, camp cleaning, season opening and closing tasks, and completion of necessary paperwork
