About The Position

The Assistant Camp Director assists in providing direction and oversight of daily operations for the youth program camps. Under general direction of the Camp Director and Youth Programs Coordinator, this position is responsible for the daily direction of camp staff, licensing compliance, and will assist with the program curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. The Assistant Camp Director is responsible for all camp activities and may act as the Camp Director as needed, ensuring compliance with State and District policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Education or similar related field, equivalent certification and/or job-related experience OR
  • Two years of college training and six (6) months (910 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen (18), in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children; OR
  • Three years (5460 hours) and six semester hours or nine quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university; or 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school age children
  • Pass a criminal record check with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation
  • Complete an annual health history exam
  • First aid and CPR certified or the ability to become certified prior to the first day of camp
  • Attend 15 hours of pre-camp training

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the research, implementation and evaluation of camp activities and curriculum to ensure appropriate level and variety of activities are utilized for participants.
  • Assist develop and oversee daily schedule for camp activities including ensuring appropriate number of staff present.
  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues in an age appropriate and professional manner, applying District/State approved tactics.
  • Ensure appropriate communication to parents, supervisor, and staff regarding program information including changes/postponements and conflicts.
  • Assist in organizing, scheduling, and confirming appropriate facilities and transportation for camp activities in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Facilitate daily camp activities and assist in providing supervision of camp participants, Camp Leaders, and Camp Aides.
  • Develop and ensure adherence to policies as they pertain to the supervision of campers and camp staff.
  • Prepare program materials, equipment, forms, and first aid kits and ensure availability and access.
  • Monitor the safety of campers and staff and implement emergency procedures when necessary and reports safety concerns immediately.
  • Assist in preparing, reviewing, and maintaining all necessary records and reports for camp activities and programs.
  • Collect and analyze program evaluations and feedback.
