About The Position

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for an experienced and highly motivated attorney to join her False Claims Division as an Assistant Attorney General. The False Claims Division holds accountable individuals and companies that make false statements to obtain government contracts or funds and brings enforcement actions against companies in diverse industries, including healthcare, technology, transportation, communications, and public construction. Cases require coordination with state, local, and federal authorities and involve matters of public interest and social justice, as well as challenging and complex enforcement initiatives. Primary Duties: The Assistant Attorney General will be responsible for handling the investigation and litigation of complex matters involving alleged violations of the Massachusetts False Claims Act. Key responsibilities include initiating and conducting investigations, which may include witness interviews, depositions, and civil investigative demands, and handling all aspects of litigation, including discovery, dispositive motions, and trial when applicable. The Assistant Attorney General also will be responsible for assessing, investigating, and litigating sealed whistleblower, or qui tam, actions, some of which are filed on behalf of multiple government entities, and all of which require collaboration with the whistleblower and their attorney.

Requirements

  • A member of the Massachusetts bar or eligible for admission in short order.
  • At least three (3) years of complex litigation experience, including taking and defending depositions and drafting and arguing dispositive motions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to exercise sound judgment and decision making.
  • Significant interest in public service and working in a collaborative enforcement environment.
  • Applicants must be Massachusetts Bar eligible at the time of application and must apply for admission before their start date.
  • Candidates who are not yet admitted may be hired as ‘Counsel’ and must pass the Massachusetts Bar within one year of their start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Mediation and significant courtroom experience preferred.
  • Previous experience handling matters involving fraud and/or the federal or Massachusetts False Claims Act is strongly desired, but not required.
