About The Position

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell seeks a highly motivated attorney to join her Office’s Consumer Protection Division as an Assistant Attorney General. The Division enforces the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act (M.G.L. c. 93A) and seeks to protect consumers from abusive practices in debt collection, automobile sales, mortgage lending, and student lending, among many other areas. Racial justice is a strategic priority of the Office, and we aim to serve the most vulnerable consumers in the Commonwealth. The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the Consumer Protection Division will be responsible for identifying problematic business practices that negatively impact consumers, evaluating their suitability for enforcement, and ultimately, investigating and litigating civil actions on behalf of the Commonwealth, where appropriate. The AAG will be expected to develop and implement concrete strategies for remedying industrywide consumer abuses and may also have the opportunity to participate in legislative and regulatory policy development at both the state and federal levels. The AAG may also have opportunities to join civil litigation teams challenging federal actions that harm the Commonwealth and its residents.

Requirements

  • Must be a member of the Massachusetts Bar.
  • At least three (3) years of prior complex litigation or equivalent legal experience preferred.
  • Ability to integrate new and complicated subject areas.
  • Excellent formal and informal writing, legal analysis, negotiation, oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to analyze and explain complex data.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to practicing law in the public interest.
  • Applicants must be Massachusetts Bar eligible at the time of application and must apply for admission before their start date.
  • Candidates who are not yet admitted may be hired as ‘Counsel’ and must pass the Massachusetts Bar within one year of their start date.
