About The Position

The Office of the Kansas Attorney General's (OAG's) Civil Division is accepting applications to fill an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) position to be assigned to perform work for the Kansas Department of Revenue, Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited law school
  • Certificate of admission to and membership in good standing with the Bar of the Supreme Court of Kansas
  • A valid driver's license

  • Two (2) or more years of civil and/or administrative law experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the attorney for the Director of Alcoholic Beverage Control and the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control pursuant to K.S.A. 41-201. This involves providing legal advice and counsel or opinions to the Director or Division regarding the enforcement of the Kansas liquor laws. The attorney shall provide legal advice to the client on matters pertaining to issuing state licenses and permits, monitoring product flow, conducting compliance reviews of licensed premises and enforcing restrictions on underage access to alcoholic beverages, and a variety of other statutory violations. This attorney also attends staff meetings as necessary or directed.
  • Serve as the litigation attorney in disciplinary actions taken by the ABC against licensees. This involves reviewing cases investigated by Agents of the ABC, and prosecuting and issuing orders in a timely manner. This also involves assisting the Solicitor's Division of the OAG in the representation of ABC in appeals before the Kansas Court of Appeals or the Kansas Supreme Court on such cases.
  • Respond appropriately to constituent correspondence, email and telephone calls.
