About The Position

MidAmerica Nazarene University, a premier Christian University located in Olathe, KS is seeking applications for a full time 12-month Assistant Athletic Trainer reporting to the Director of Sports Medicine. The Assistant Athletic Trainer assists with the day-to-day management of the sports medicine department, which requires some night and weekend work. Candidates for the above position should possess a commitment to Christian higher education, model servant leadership, and be willing to assume the duties listed in the following position description. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Prevention and care of athletic injury and illnesses Evaluation of athletic injuries Communication of information between the sports medicine team, coaches, student-athletes and parents Education and counseling for student-athletes regarding their injury/illness Maintain appropriate documentation and record-keeping Maintain the system of daily records of assessments, treatments, and rehabilitation for all athletes with guaranteed confidentiality according to FERP, HIPPA, and other regulations that apply Oversee the monitoring and care of the athletics training room, equipment, and inventory housed there. Other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, in a manner consistent with professional standards, including making oral presentations to groups and contributing to the development of high-quality written materials which reflect positively on the University
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with persons both internal and external to the University, both on the telephone and in person. The ability to relate in a caring manner to students and families from a broad range of backgrounds, both in group situations and individually, and to effectively advise students and mediate disputes, some of which will be emotionally charged.
  • Ability to use new technologies to accomplish team and departmental goals
  • Ability to travel and work a varied schedule which may include night and weekend hours
  • Current certification in first aid, CPR and AED.
  • Eligible for state of Kansas Licensure
  • Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization is required.
  • National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) certificated.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a University Intercollegiate athletics setting is preferred.
