About The Position

The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the mission and philosophy of the intercollegiate athletics program at The University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB), ensuring compliance with all institutional, NCAA, Lone Star Conference, UT System, and State of Texas rules and regulations. This position provides comprehensive and holistic healthcare to student-athletes, working collaboratively with coaches, strength and conditioning staff, medical personnel, and athletics administration. Key responsibilities include assisting in injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and management; coordinating medical referrals and physical exams; and providing coverage for practices, competitions, clinics, and camps. The role also includes administrative duties such as record-keeping, insurance documentation, and statistical tracking. The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports to the Director of Sports Medicine and may be assigned additional duties by the Director or Vice President of Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the appropriate area of specialization and two (2) years of directly related experience or a Master's degree in Athletic Training (certified graduate assistant athletic training experience is allowable)
  • Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) OR Texas State Athletic Training Licensure (or eligible for licensure) is required.
  • Familiarity with NCAA governing rules and a strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept.
  • Possesses an unencumbered driver's license and the ability to travel.

  • Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization
  • Two (2) years of directly related professional experience in collegiate athletics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Sports Medicine with injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes.
  • Assist in the provision of athletic training services for the University's athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
  • Assist the Director of Sports Medicine in coordination and scheduling of physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.
  • Provides athletic training coverage for clinics, exhibitions and camps, as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.
  • Performs administrative tasks such as record-keeping, insurance filings, maintaining statistics.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine or VP of Athletics.
