About The Position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer. - Boca Raton, FL. The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the Head Athletic Trainer in coordinating and administering an athletic training program that ensures quality medical care for all student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics. Summary of responsibilities: Assist the Head Trainer with coordination and administration of the athletic training program that provides for competent and complete medical care for all student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics under the direction of the team physician and the athletic director. Responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for student-athletes. Administer first aid to injured athletes and apply protective devices, such as taping, bandaging, or bracing, as needed. Assists Head Athletic Trainer and team physician(s) in determining whether an athlete is fit for participation in an athletic function. Assists in the administration program, athletic pre-participation physicals, echocardiograms, and drug-testing programs. Work cooperatively with, and under the direction of, the team physician regarding the operation of therapeutic devices and equipment, fitting of braces, guards, or other devices, referrals to physicians, health services, or hospitals. Olympic Sport Pre-Participation Physicals: Coordinate and submit complete Olympic sport spreadsheets to Compliance Office, and coordinate dates and times with coaches and Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Insurance Liaison: Collaborate with Student Health Services to arrange care for domestic student-athletes. Work with the outside insurance group, Insurance for Students, and the Office of International Student and Scholar Services to ensure compliance with University protocols for international students. Student Health Center Liaison: Conduct referral and documentation/billing updates for student-athletes. Budget/Inventory: Oversee annual budget development with business office, evaluate new athletic training products with Head Athletic Trainer throughout fiscal year, and delegate/oversee inventory with assistant athletic trainers. Perform other job-related duties that may be initiated as requested by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the appropriate area of specialization and three years of appropriate experience; or a master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of appropriate experience required.
  • Successful experience as a graduate assistant or intern in an athletic program is acceptable for up to one year of the required experience.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain the National Athletic Trainer Associate Certificate.

  • Final candidate will be required to have official, sealed transcripts and original NACES evaluation, if applicable, sent from their educational institution to Human Resources prior to the start of employment.
  • Selected candidates must successfully complete and pass all employment screenings prior to the start of employment. Employment screenings may include a criminal background check (level I and level II), motor vehicle check, credit check, reference checks, alcohol, and drug screening check.
