About The Position

The University of Utah College of Social Work ("College") invites applications for multiple 9-month open rank tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor with responsibilities in scholarly research and instruction at the undergraduate (BSW) and graduate (MSW) levels. The College is interested in candidates whose innovative ideas and research agenda will support students' transformation of policies, practice, and interventions to alleviate human suffering, enhance well-being, and promote social justice. The College is interested in candidates whose teaching focuses on mental health; child welfare; substance use and addictions; organizations and communities; diversity, human rights, and social justice; and technology in social work practice; however, candidates with teaching interests and/or expertise in other areas are encouraged to apply. The candidates selected for these positions will be outstanding scholars-with a strong scholarly record and external funding agenda; and teachers-with a record of excellence in teaching and student support-consistent with the appropriate rank of faculty appointment they are applying for. This is an "in person" position, and the successful candidate will work on site at the College in Salt Lake City. The University of Utah and the College value candidates who have experience working in settings with students from various backgrounds and possess a strong commitment to improving access to higher education.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have a doctorate in social work or a related field (e.g., Psychology, Public Health, Gerontology, Applied Sociology) by the time of appointment; an MSW degree is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates should demonstrate a history of or capacity for a strong record of publications; commitment to preparing research proposals for external funding; record of excellence in teaching; and record of professional and community service.
  • Applicants who are ABD may also apply if successful defense of the dissertation occurs prior to appointment.
  • Successful candidates will have at least two years of full-time, post-master's professional social work experience, enabling them to teach practice courses.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses during fall and spring semester.
  • Prepare, design, and deliver lectures and course content.
  • Utilize innovative and inclusive teaching methods to engage diverse learners
  • Facilitate class discussions and activities.
  • Create and administer course assignments, examinations, and other assessments.
  • Proactively engage with and support the success of students
  • Support and contribute to curriculum development efforts as needed for courses
  • Ensure the quality of teaching by engaging in ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Conduct original research in social work or related fields.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, or other scholarly outlets.
  • Seek external funding through grants to support research initiatives.
  • Present research at academic conferences and professional gatherings.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and program accreditation efforts.
  • Engage with the local community and professional organizations to promote social work values.
  • Create and maintain cooperative, collaborative, and effective working relationships with administrators, faculty members, and staff in the delivery of courses and programs.
  • Participate in college and university committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the dean.
