About The Position

Subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement Requirements. The University of Akron, Department of Finance, is seeking to fill the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice/Instruction (Non-Tenure Track) and Director in Financial Planning beginning Fall semester of 2026 (August 2026) to teach undergraduate courses in all or some of the following areas: retirement planning, foundations of financial planning, foundations of financial literacy, and seminar in financial planning (capstone). Graduate courses may be assigned based upon the successful candidate’s qualifications and university approval. The position is subject to funding. Candidates must have a commitment to activities, including scholarship, that enable them to maintain their qualifications under AACSB faculty classification. The university provides excellent support for faculty scholarship and teaching, including WRDS and subscriptions to the Compustat, CRSP, and SNL databases. Service to the University and the profession is also expected.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree or terminal degree with a minimum of five (5) years’ working or teaching experience in financial planning, retirement planning, or wealth management.
  • Candidates must have a commitment to activities that enable them to maintain their qualifications under AACSB faculty classification.

Nice To Haves

  • A certified Financial Planner ® (CFP®) designation is highly preferred, or the successful candidate must pass the CFP® certification examination within 18 months of their hire date.
