About The Position

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing. Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. JOB SUMMARY: Fort Valley State University is seeking applicants for full-time, 10-month, tenure-track faculty positions in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program. The mission of Fort Valley State University's nursing program is to prepare diverse nursing scholars to safely deliver quality healthcare that meets the holistic needs of clients. FVSU nursing is committed to working with rural communities to improve access to care and decrease health disparities. The start date for this position is August 1, 2026.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing.
  • A minimum of three (3) years in academia with a proven record of exceptional teaching in nursing programs.
  • An unencumbered Registered Professional Nursing License in the state of Georgia.
  • Three (3) + years' experience in professional nursing practice.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with a team.
  • Flexibility for after-hours coverage including evenings and weekends.
  • Proficient with Microsoft, D2L, and Banner.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Ability to travel to clinical sites.
  • Possess a current valid driver license with an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • A doctoral degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Three years of classroom experience in nursing.
  • Experience with ACEN accreditation process.
  • Familiarity with clinical onboarding systems (ACEMAPP, Verified credentials, etc.)
  • Recent nursing experience in Obstetrics, Mental Health, Pediatrics, Leadership, or Medical Surgical Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare objectives, lesson plans, lectures, syllabi, calendar, exams, quizzes, assignments, and additional material for assigned nursing courses.
  • Supervise clinical activity for assigned nursing students in various healthcare facilities and campus labs.
  • Monitor and update course material and announcements in the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Participate in the accreditation process by crafting assigned accreditation standards, mapping of course outcomes to End of Program Student Learning Outcomes (EPSLO), and attending events related to the process.
  • Grade student assignments and enter grades into LMS.
  • Advise and remediate assigned nursing students.
  • Evaluate program curriculum and student outcomes.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees and participate in ongoing community service and outreach.
  • Maintain a minimum of ten face-to-face office hours per week.
  • Exhibit a commitment to expanding the program, student engagement, retention, scholarship, and the nursing profession.
  • Abide by faculty onboarding policies of clinical partners, which include but are not limited to drug screens, background checks, proof of immunizations, and current BLS.
  • Acts as an exemplary role model and exhibits professional values and standards.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
