The Department of Media Production, Management, and Technology (MPMT) in the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications seeks to hire a nine-month tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor with a demonstrated record of creative production to begin Fall 2026. The MPMT department is unique within the college and the university, recognizing the critical importance of creative tenure tracks where creativity and artistic output are valued as highly as traditional scholarly research. We seek a dynamic scholar-practitioner whose creative output advances storytelling through innovative media formats. This role emphasizes tenure based on a robust portfolio of creative work—such as films, documentaries, series, or interactive projects—alongside teaching and service contributions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in creative production that engages audiences in meaningful ways. Areas of expertise may include traditional filmmaking, documentary filmmaking, new media arts, emerging technologies such as augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR), streaming series development and production, or hybrid formats that blend narrative with interactive elements. We value candidates who push boundaries in media innovation, fostering content that addresses contemporary social issues, cultural narratives, or technological disruptions. Tenure evaluation will prioritize impactful creative scholarship, evidenced by screenings at prestigious film festivals (e.g., Sundance, Tribeca, SXSW, Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, Venice, Slamdance, Atlanta, Seattle, Austin, or Florida), awards in the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Festival of Media Arts, screenings or presentations at the University Film and Video Association (UFVA) conference, OTT distribution of creative work with platforms such as DUST, Omeleto, Short of the Week, or other niche streaming outlets, recognition in branded entertainment awards (e.g., Cannes Lions Entertainment, Tribeca X, or Brand Film Awards), publications in creative outlets, peer-reviewed exhibitions, grants from bodies like the National Endowment for the Arts, or collaborations with industry leaders such as Netflix, Hulu, or emerging OTT platforms.
