About The Position

Charleston Southern University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Counseling. This is an in-person position based in Charleston, SC that would start August 1st, 2025. Remote option available. Ideal candidates have a passion for teaching future counselors and can relate their clinical experience to students. Applicants will teach in the master's program as well as in the new PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision program, slated to launch in Fall 2026. The position could involve leadership opportunities in the PhD program, but newer faculty will also be considered. Experience teaching doctoral counseling students and the ability to teach research classes is highly desired. We seek applicants with a background in clinical counseling. They must have a deep desire to integrate the Christian faith into counseling curriculum and teach doctoral students to do the same. Charleston Southern seeks candidates who are professing Christians, committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. They should support the goals of a strong liberal arts education and explore with students the integration of faith and learning. Rank is commensurate with experience. Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in Counselor Education & Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program. Applicants without this completed degree cannot be considered.
  • Licensure-eligible in the state of South Carolina.
  • Identification with the counseling profession through membership in professional organizations (e.g., ACA and/or its divisions).
  • Experience in teaching and clinical supervision of counselors-in-training.
  • Evidence of scholarly activities related to clinical counseling and counselor training.
  • Familiarity with technology, distance learning, and CACREP standards.
  • Qualified to teach core counseling courses on CSU's campus.
  • Strong commitment to integrating Christian faith into counseling education and teaching doctoral students to do the same.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching doctoral counseling students and the ability to teach research classes is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Teach master's and doctoral-level courses for the counseling programs.
  • Develop curriculum, including student practicum and internship.
  • Supervise counseling student-interns, including site visits.
  • Advise and recruit students.
  • Work cooperatively with clinical mental health agencies.
  • Engage in professional counseling activities.
  • Participate in program, school, and university activities such as information sessions, admissions processes, and workshops.
  • Assist in occasional school and university recruitment activities.
  • Teach face-to-face and synchronous online courses as needed.
  • Consider leadership opportunities in the PhD program as appropriate
