About The Position

George Fox University's School of Cinema, Art and Design invites applications for a .5 FTE Assistant Professor of Cinematic Arts with specialization in screenwriting and game design/narrative. This position is designed for a practitioner-scholar actively working in the game industry who can bridge cinematic storytelling and interactive narrative forms. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in screenwriting and game narrative, mentor students pursuing narrative careers across media, and contribute to the creative and intellectual life of the program. Requirements

  • An MFA in Cinematic Arts, Screenwriting, Game Design, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in screenwriting across film, television, or interactive media.
  • Demonstrated experience in game design and/or narrative design.
  • Evidence of active professional work in the game industry (e.g., shipped titles, studio employment, freelance narrative design, or comparable professional engagement).
  • College-level teaching experience or strong evidence of teaching potential.
  • The ability to teach broadly across screenwriting and game narrative curricula.
  • A commitment to the University's Theology of Racial and Ethnic Diversity .
  • A desire to work with a diverse community of students and employees who represent various cultures, backgrounds, abilities, ethnicities, political views, and expressions of Christian faith.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional credits in both linear and interactive narrative formats.
  • Experience collaborating on interdisciplinary creative teams, including writers, designers, artists, and programmers.
  • Familiarity with contemporary narrative tools, engines, or platforms (e.g., Unity, Unreal, Twine, Ink, or similar).
  • A strong commitment to mentoring undergraduate students and supporting diverse creative voices.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching a 0.5 FTE load (typically two courses per academic year), with assignments that may include: screenwriting (introductory and advanced), game design and narrative, and interactive storytelling and transmedia narrative.
  • Developing curriculum that integrates cinematic storytelling principles with interactive and player-driven narrative frameworks.
  • Mentoring and advising students working in screenwriting, game narrative, and related narrative media.
  • Remaining actively engaged in professional game industry practice, contributing current industry knowledge to teaching and curriculum.
  • Participating in departmental meetings, assessment, and curriculum development appropriate to a 0.5 FTE appointment.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.
